Rocky Top Raceway set to resume racing September 6th
By: T. J. Layne

COAL GROVE, OH-After a four week break, the Rocky Top Raceway will resume racing with a “Full Racing Program” on Saturday, September 6th. On the card will be Late Models going 30 laps for $2,000 to win, Tomahawk Race Car Modifieds $650 to win, Bombers $350 to win, and Mod Lites $200 to win. This will be the first Saturday night race at Rocky Top since September of 2005.

“We are really excited to host some fall, Saturday night races”, stated RTR promoter T. J. Layne. “The weather this time of year is pretty nice and by racing Saturdays it allows people to still attend high school football games on Fridays. If the fan and driver support is good for this first Saturday race, there will definitely be more Saturday races added to the schedule this fall.”

Race fans have been treated to great racing action all season long at RTR. The 2008 Friday night season saw high car counts with an average of 18 Late Models, 20 Tomahawk Race Car Modifieds, 15 Bombers, and 10 Mod Lites in attendance. 2008 track championships were claimed by Jackie Boggs-Late Model, Todd Robinson-Tomahawk Race Car Modified, Wayne Hughes-Bomber, and Chris Stone-Mod Lite. Over 200 different drivers from Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and North Carolina raced at RTR in 2008.

With very few area tracks racing this weekend, a good field of cars is expected to be in attendance for all classes as the World 100 at Eldora is expected to only take away a few cars. Start times for this Saturday will be the same with gates opening at 4:00 pm, drivers meeting at 7:00 pm, and hot laps beginning the nights action at 7:30 pm. Adult general admission is $12, general admission for kids 7-12 $2, and pit admission $25. RTR features grandstand seating along with plenty of places for lawn chairs.
