Piketon avg. 67.3 ppg while giving up 52.8 ...-14.5 differential....playing most of the season without their best Defensive Player.
Also, very impressive that the Streaks after losing two 1000 point scorers from last years team, plus Southworth who was averaging 13.4 (6 games) still led the SVC in scoring again this season.

Using JimmytheGreek's methodology.

The Eastern Eagles of Meigs Co. are having a good defensive year.

Over 19 games (18 - 1) they have scored an average of 62 ppg while giving up less that 40 for a 22 ppg average spread. An average of under 40 ppg sure sounds like good D.

Go for it -- Eagles!!

Or that. There really is no way the stats tell the whole story. That fact is what makes the OHSAA tournament so interesting and enjoyable. I hope for the best for all the area teams, and we'll just have to see how the chips fall.

Is Southworth out? What does Piketon have left for the tourney? They gonna make a run? Some picked them the team to beat early on.

With statistics borrowed from http://www.trivalleyconference.com/, thanks 93B!!!

Below is how the TVC Hocking stats shakes out. These are averages of all games played by each team. The stat that is outstanding is Eastern's 40 pts against average, which compares to an average of 57, ranging from 52 - 61 for the other members of the league. From the perspective of the TVC Hocking Div competition only, it looks like the signficantly better defense is the highest winning percentage.

winning %:
Eastern 95%
Southern 78%
Trimble 58%
Fed Hoc 47%
Waterford 25%
Miller 6%

by average points scored:
Southern 64
Eastern 62
Fed Hoc 55
Trimble 53
Waterford 52
Miller 38

by average points against:
Eastern 40
Southern 52
Trimble 56
Fed Hoc 56
Miller 58
Waterford 61

by average point difference:
Eastern 22
Southern 13
Fed Hoc -1
Trimble -3
Waterford -9
Miller -20

Made the trip from Peebles to watch Portsmouth/Ironton play, I agree that Ironton is a great defensive team...scary!!

If Peebles can somehow make it past Portsmouth we have to play Ironton...yikes...tough draw!!

Like they say anything can happen when you come to play.

Without the shot clock, which I would absolutely abhor, it is difficult to measure defensive performance with stats, but the real goal of basketball is to make more points per possession than you opponents, or in very tight games you may even win by having less points per possession than your opponents if you get more possessions by getting the last shot each quarter. So I don't understand why an obvious telling statistic such as points scored or points given up per possession is not more kept, used, and made known.
