Waverly beat Westfall and then beat Unioto- the gym was real hot and Travis didnt play anyone for real long stretches- still Waverly played decent against Unioto- at one time led 44- -17. Devin Kelly and Jake Kretzer did the majority of scoring and the others chipped in when needed. Harrison Martin was not there and has not played with the team this summer yet- Westfall and Unioto played a fairly close game and I think Unioto came out on top. I was a little suprised that the Shermans were not a little better than they are because they have some players.

Saturday at capital:
First game:
Waverly defeats a very strong Sidney- 47-43 Martin very good game in the paint/ Kretzer got rolling for the Tigers.

Second Game:
Waverly defeats Columbus Academy- 59-32
Kretzer and Kelly (3 three-pointers each) get hot from the outside- Martin dominates paint, very good game from Taylor Ward inside. Holt, Leatherwood, John Paul, and Hiebel all performed well for the Tigers.

Third Game:
Waverly knocks off Cincinnati Sycamore- 53-48
Tigers hang on for big hard fought battle! Game got real close at the end but a long touchdown pass from kretz to martin iced the win. Kelly, Martin, Kretzer all in double figures for Waverly. Ward played huge in keeping their big kid off the boards.

Waverly finishes regular pool play 5-1, with wins over Licking Valley, Springfield NE, Sidney, Columbus Academy, and Cincinnati Sycamore.

Waverly played the weekend without Davis Remy and Zach Corchoran who were not available.

Final results from Saturday Capital Camp:

After finishing 5-1 in pool play Waverly goes unbeaten in the tournament and wins the 2010 Capital Team Camp Overtime Tournament.

In the Finals against Greenview With Waverly down one and four seconds to go Devin Kelly hits a half-court shot at the buzzer to send Waverly home the Champs!!! Very good showing by Waverly! Coaching staff must be pleased with the effort given by the Tigers! Great job guys!!! Keep working hard!!

This is definitely a momentum builder for the Tigers and hopefully they continue the hard work throughout the Summer.

Is Ferguson playing with the team?

Waverly is at the Ohio University team camp this week and they went 5-1 on the first day (Monday). They will play a host of games today and then rap it up on Wednesday.

Several cars at the gym and lights on late last night. Painting or something else going on?

Waverly looked pretty good at OU yesterday. They came out extremely flat the first game and took a 5 point loss to Eastern Brown whom were shooting the lights out from beyond the arc. They really stepped it up the next 5 games and ran everyone they played out of the gym. They held Division one Logan Scoreless for 12 minutes and won by 30 plus. I was very impressed with how the coaching staff has this team playing. When they get after it defensively like they can they are hard to compete with. Harrison Martin was absolutely unstoppable in the post yesterday. Big guys can't guard him because he is too quick, if they put someone quick on them he bullies them with his strength. He could basically score whenever he wanted. Over the coarse of the day Jake Kretzer went 15 for 17 from three point range. Hard to stop him when he is shooting like that. Devin Kelley played a nice floor game and did a great job getting Harrison the ball where he could score. The other 2 starters Taylor Ward and Aaron Heibel did some nice things but mostly importantly played hard and understood their rolls on this team. I would also like to say John Paul White and Zack Corchoran did some nice things off the bench. Davis Remy came in and played strong defensively and got after it when he was in the game.

I was very impressed with the camp and the fact that Coach Groce was there watching games and talking with everyone all day. He spent a fair amount of time talking with Jake and watched all of the Waverly games yesterday. I don't know if Harrison is getting any looks in basketball or just baseball but the kid deserves some serious attention on the basketball court.

Tigers defeated Pink North, Franklin Hieghts, Logan, Lancaster, and Madison Plains on Tuesday afternoon. They looked pretty good the entire day- the three returning starters from last year got very little rest and seemed very tired as the day went on- coach played them a lot while looking at different combos to put with them. The camp was well attended and the OU coach did seem to watch Kretzer a lot. Very good showing by Waverly and lots and lots of basketball was played- which is how you get better!
