Zanesville at Piketon on January 29th. Sounds like Coach Lisath is like Coach Aronhalt -- play the best teams you can find. Anybody can schedule wins, and many do. Our program is predicated on preparing our kids to excel at the highest level possible, and that includes prepping them to play at the next level.

Agreed, but I think when your league is pretty solid, you should tone down your non-league schedule. The scrimmage and summer schedule over the past three years has been extremely tough. The Streaks battled Cincinnati Oak Hills, Lakota West, Roger Bacon, Hughes, Kings and Columbus Mifflin, South, Independence, Marion Franklin, Harvest Prep. Also Middletown, Kettering Alter, Lebanon, Chillicothe, Two big schools from Indiana. I once heard Coach L. say "if we can't beat them, it shows us how good we need to be" I think that was huge during Piketon's Final 4 run. On the flip side, it sometimes hurts them during the tournament draw. Instead of being a top seed, they end up in the #3 or #4 slot, like Portsmouth who plays a tough schedule, but normally ends up at #7 or #8. Every coach has a different philosphy when it comes to this issue.

Jimmy the Greek that is why the folks who seed the post season NEED TO keep up with Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/Southeast Ohio! the listings for the Top 8 teams in SO/SE Ohio are out every Sunday evening during the season ... I KNOW FOR A FACT that the "committee of one-me" takes into account strength of schedule when compiling "THE" list for hoops Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line ... LOL ... The Elite 8, Treehugger Wannabee's and Teams on the End Table - it's ALL coming back to me now LOL ... the committee of one - me - is gathering information as I post (okay, maybe just unpacking the Napkin Stats from last season) BUT the information IS BEING looked over by the committee!!! ... I'm sure that a PRESEASON Pfloyd Elite 8 will be coming out towards the end of October ...

Indeed, Jimmy, philosophies differ. Ours is to get ready for the postseason, and if it costs you a higher seed to be prepared for it, so be it. To an extent, I find seeding to be somewhat overwrought -- I think for many people it's more about egos than anything else. Eventually, you have to prove yourself against top teams, so it's best to be prepared for that ordeal when it confronts you. We struggled around midseason last year, but when the chips were on the table, we ended up in the Schottenstein Center playing and not watching.

Many ways to skin the cat, though.

Heard that Piketon dropped out of the Beast of the Southeast Shootout at Chesapeake because they didn't want to play Ironton. I hope this isn't true?

To my knowledge, there was several scenarios that were discussed, but didn't play out...those to my knowledge were the Beast of the Southeast tourney and the Ironton Classic. Due to commitments and signed contracts we couldn't undue, we were not able to participate in those games. As far as playing Ironton, we went to Ironton a few years back (and won), and never got a return home game the following year; we did play them that following year in the district tourney.

If we were able to play, we would play...it was definitely a game we were hoping to work out, but couldn't. Anyone who knows Coach Lisath knows we will play anyone, anytime...We feel we have a pretty good team ourselves, and look for another great season for our program.

Really????? I think Piketon spanked them @ Ironton the last regular season meeting, and again in the District tournament a couple of years ago...I'm sure if it was possible it would've happened.

Awesome time last night with the Montserrat team. Great open gym, fellowship, and sharing...and the food was awesome as well. Thanks to Dave Shoemaker and Josh Anderson for making it happen and to all of the Piketon Redstreaks Coaches, Parents, and fans for your generous contribution.

A big THANKS to Jeff Lisath, his team, and the good folks at Piketon for the warm welcome they extended to my team and friends from Montserrat on Thursday evening. It was an amazing thing to see - the Caribbean meets Pike County. The players respected each other and got along tremendously, and we had a great time eating together after the open gym. Just a great experience for my guys, and I hope it was for Jeff's as well.

Pre-season State D3 Rankings has Chesapeake #3, Ironton #9, and Piketon #14. More high expectations for the Redstreaks!

Though it really means nothing as The Chef understands things, but being ranked #14 is exciting and is a recognition of a solid team.

How many teams are in this ranking?
