Stephen Forsha of the Highland County Press has a good piece about rivalry games in Highland County.

He proposes that rivalry league games should be scheduled for the final week of the seaosn, so there's alsways a big game just before the tournament. I for one agree. It's a good editorial from the best sports writer in the Southern Hills.

Here's a good piece about Lynchburg-Clay's new Hall of Fame....(spoiler alert: Paul Cluxton made it in on the first ballot).

Oh, and I don't want to leave Adams County's People's Defender out. The only boys basketball articles in their sports section cover these North Adams games: http://www.peoplesdefender.com/main.asp ... M=83044.35
http://www.peoplesdefender.com/main.asp ... M=83505.93
http://www.peoplesdefender.com/main.asp ... M=83044.35

But they do have a column about Ultimate Fighting, which somehow earns inches in the paper on a regualr basis. Read the UFC article here: http://www.peoplesdefender.com/main.asp ... M=83044.35

In case you're wondering what UFC has to do with local high school athletics in the middle of the county's most popular sports season, the answer is absolutely nothing.

HOWEVER, the Defender has started to publish basketball stories that are 30 years old, as part of their "Adams County Sports History" section here: http://www.peoplesdefender.com/main.asp ... eID=132669

Mark Carpenter has submitted a plea for more historical pieces unrelated to any basketball currently being played, as he writes in this piece: http://www.peoplesdefender.com/main.asp ... eID=132669

The older stories are pretty neat to read, and I think any SHL fan should submit stories from any memorable old games. Or, even better, from any current games being played this season.

And from Brown County, here's an article about Western Brown's victory over Fayetteville in the Brown County Tournament Consolation Game. The article was posted almost two weeks after the actual game, but better late than never: http://www.browncountypress.com/main.as ... M=83923.56

And here's one about the BCT Championship, also posted long after the tournament was over: http://www.browncountypress.com/main.as ... M=83959.45

And a piece about Ripley beating Eastern Brown: http://www.browncountypress.com/main.as ... M=83959.45

This last piece was posted more than a month after the actual game.

Thank goodness for c103, the Highland County Press, and the SEOPs community for their excellent sports coverage.

No, I was just taking a break from editing and I think I got a little carried away with the link sharing.

I think the Defender has been doing a much better job over the past few weeks. The past couple papers have had several pages of articles about games. The new sports guy seems to be a big fan of Adams County basketball and always has a lot of great things to say about the teams, not showing much bias as can be heard on certain we'll not mention their name radio stations :).......A lot of it has to do with relying on coaches to submit information as well.

Could be...I don't get the physical copies of the paper or look at the pdfs...I will say that Peebles boys coverage has been light, and their website has a looooong way to go.

As does c103's

I'm thinking there was an article just this week on the Eastern game and a pic of Andy Countryman. I know NA coaches call a lot of things in, which explains why they a lot of jr high coverage as well.

Usually junior high or peewee coaches from any county school will call at leats one game in that includes a recap of several games. It's great that they do that, because these locals papers are already strecthed thin, and I think it's important that a kid gets to his his or her name in the paper once in a while.

Yes, a lot of the coverage has to do with the coaches reporting, especially at the varsity level. Most of the local papers don't have people who can go cover every game so they depend alot on the coaches. Saw where the informer is wanting to hire someone from each of the 4 county schools.

I take this back. Saw an article about the Peebles/Whiteoak homecoming game today laying around at the house. Not sure about the Eastern game. The website needs to be consistantly updated though.
