Meigs ends 17-year GAHS cage hex

Post by jottings »

When the Meigs boys varsity basketball team defeated host Gallipolis Gallia Academy 55-53 Saturday night in the GA middle school gym, it was the Marauders first win over the Blue Devils since the tail end of the 1997-98 campaign—17 years ago.
That’s a longer hex than some of the ages of today’s Meigs players who are mostly sophomores and juniors.
Prior to Saturday night, MHS had lost 19 straight games to the Gallians.
Last Meigs win over GAHS was in the 1997-98 sectional tournament at South Webster, 52-47.
Here is a list of GAHS-Meigs games over the past 17 years:

I am gonna go ahead and say it....I don't see Gallia beating Meigs for several more years...At least 5 or 6.

GAHS can't keep losing players to other schools if the Blue Devils hope to compete in the future. See where Jacob Streiter, a 6-8 junior, scored 18 points Saturday in Huntington St. Joe's 4th win in six games. Fairland has a freshman from GAHS that was a top 8th grader for Gallia last year. And 6-7 D. J. Drenner is a junior at South Gallia waiting to become eligible to play for the 6-2 Rebels. Earlier in the 2000s, GAHS lost a 6-8 player Martin to Pt. Pleasant, a Love boy to Oak Hill, a Barnetz kid to Wahama, etc.

I can only say, "A good player does not necessarily make a good coach"
