Well if 13,000 is to big for D4 then it is to big for D 2 and D3 as well because many times it's the D4 schools that bring the bigger crowds. I worked in the OU athletics department for several years and actually worked the tournaments . The small schools always brought the largest crowds with the exception of Cambridge who travelled a ton. The school that would shockingly have some of the smallest crowds was Athens. The D2 schools from Columbus brought very few fans as well.

Who cares if the arena is too big. It's a thrill and perhaps the only time the vast majority of these kids will play in a venue like The Convo. It's a goal they shoot for every year.
I guess you never worked the games when McClain, Eastern Brown, Logan Elm or North Adams were playing.
I never worked a Logan Elm or Eastern Brown but yes on North Adams. McClain travelled very well. North Adams bounces back and forth between D3 and D4. I think they are D4 again.

Meigs Sectional sends seeds 5, 6, 7, and 8 to the Convo; interesting!

Congrats to The Rebels on their big win! That was as good as any game I've ever seen in person! On to The Convo.

Perhaps there would be more fans if they played those games at a decent day/time. To ask D-4 teams to travel 2 hours and play at 8pm on a Monday night is a little much.

athens78: i agree that the atmosphere is lacking at some D4 games in Convo...especially second half of the late games. Webster played games at Convo last year where there were maybe 1500 fans at and the place was dead, but then advanced to Regional Final at Ohio Dominican and the same amount of people filled their gym and made for a great atmosphere. But regardless, there something about playing in the Convo that all kids (D4 teams included) around here should experience no matter if there's a big crowd or not.*

As a player playing at the Convo is a great experience. I don't care if there are 5 people there. I guess you would have to of played there to understand. What a great place to watch games from as well.
