Tribune reports it is for basketball, baseball, soccer, girls basketball and softball. They will not begin league play until fall 2019

Just to piggy back off my above post, here would be the divisions for Football - Basketball - and Soccer

Basketball

SOC 1
New Boston
St. Joe
Clay
Green
East
Symmes Valley
South Gallia
Notre Dame

WORST DRIVES?

Notre Dame to South Gallia is 1:30, a little long for a basketball trip.

SOC 2
South Webster
Manchester
Oak Hill
Valley
Northwest
Eastern
Western
Coal Grove

WORST DRIVES?

Manchester would have a few hauls to a few different places, around 1 hour to Eastern and Western.

SOC 3
Waverly
Ironton
Portsmouth
Wheelersburg
Jackson
Minford
Portsmouth West
South Point

WORST DRIVES?

None seem too bad.

Football

SOC 1

Green
East
Symmes Valley
South Gallia
Notre Dame
Western
Manchester

WORST DRIVES?

Mapquest shows Western to Symmes is a 1:30 minute drive. Good news is, only 1 school has to make it each year since in football you only play each league opponent once.

Notre Dame to South Gallia is around 1:30 as well.

Manchester to South Gallia would be 2 hours, there's a potential problem.

SOC 2

Oak Hill
Valley
Northwest
Eastern
Coal Grove
South Point

WORST DRIVES?

Nothing too major. Looks like Northwest to South Point is about an hour.

SOC 3
Waverly
Ironton
Portsmouth
Wheelersburg
Jackson
Minford
Portsmouth West

WORST DRIVES?

None really seem to be that bad. West to Jackson looks like about an hour, which isn't too bad in football.

Soccer

SOC 1
New Boston
St. Joe
Clay
South Webster
Valley
Northwest

WORST DRIVES?

None seem too bad.

SOC 2
Waverly
Wheelersburg
Jackson
Minford
Portsmouth West
South Point

WORST DRIVES?

None seem too bad, West to Jackson as mentioned before maybe.

Again, who says no?

In football SOC 1 and SOC 3 get 6 league games which allow 4 non-conference games... SOC 2 would have 5 conference games and 5 out of conference (allowing them to schedule rivals like Minford vs. Valley etc).

Soccer looks pretty balanced except for South Point in SOC 2, maybe switch them and South Webster for a more competitive conference?

Basketball seems fine.

Man if they ever make 3 divisions you best believe Webster stays in the big school division. I don't think anyone would be happy having Burg as a non conference game.

I definitely see why both sides wanted it though
You know it’s an additional 20 minutes to Symmes Valley, which they already make annually. Additionally, if the SOC wanted to balance divisions and add South Gallia, Symmes Valley is still farther for Western than South Gallia, but the Portsmouth Bypass will be open by then so both trips should be around the same amount of time by then cutting time to Green, St. Joe, and Symmes Valley.

Here is the article. It mentions South Webster having the numbers to move into the smaller division but decided to stay where they are.

Read the daily times article it’s better written then Ironton paper

Eastern is moving up in basketball only
Manchester withdrew from consideration for SOC
Western is continuing there football program

Good move for the SOC 1 and a Bigger move for SOC2 with Beaver coming on over to play with the Big schools.

Interesting to hear Waverly is considering a move. It's not like they're way out of the area. Is it the competition?

The PDT article continually quotes the Ironton Tribune article. The only difference is that the PDT article speculates on a few other issues that aren't discussed in the original article.

Western begins varsity football in 2021 (I think). Manchester will likely never be voted into the SOC unless they are willing to go as a full member, which is unlikely. I believe your comment on Eastern and basketball is correct that they are only moving into SOC 2 in basketball.

The article says that Eastern is moving up in all sports other than football.

Ok for many years now I've heard Waverly wants to leave the SOC-2. What advantage would there be to do that? What league would they want to join, I assume the Scioto Valley? In my opinion the SOC 2 typically has some good teams every year. One school will be good and then another comes along as that one fades. That has to be the case in every league. So again, what advantage in moving?

The SVC right now has 3 division 2 schools, with them also being D4 football schools. That could be a reasoning behind a move there.

The FAC is all D2 schools, with all but 1 being bigger than D4 in football.

They could see that they are going to stay their current size or larger and want to move up size wise for their competition?
