difference maker = free throws (and layups could be included in that)

Athens inability to make FT and convert on fast break opportunities truly kept Alexander in the game. The technical foul call when Athens was going for a layup and it turned into Alexander converting a 6 point turn around was huge.

Alexander struggled to score, but the Alexander coaching staff made some great adjustments and did not panic. Mecum was very good all night and the guard play of JK Kearns and Luke Kish was solid.

The difference was Alexander coaching and both team's FT shooting.

Go Alex.

Even one of them touching and yelling at Hynes which should have been addressed and has no place on the court. I have only seen a few reliable and fair refs thus far this year. Gallia game and River Valley and Meigs was OK.
Wow, making an excuse about officiating before the game has even been played, that’s a new one.

Alex 11-of-14 from the line

Athens 8-18 ... including just 4-of-14 in the 2nd half.

The worst part is the constant complaining about fouls and poor body language.

I think Alex wanted it more. They just hung around the whole game and pulled it out down the Stretch. They outhustled Athens tonight. I think the X-Factor Was Brian Mecum for Alex. He was everywhere on the floor, made some clutch shots and played great Defense. Kam Riley and The Kearns boy made big 3s at the end to Seal the Game. Once again Turnovers and Missed Free Throws are Athens Achilles Heel.

if Brian Mecum was on the floor Alex would have gotten a technical foul. plus I don't think he could get up and down the floor any more. It was Dylan Mecum that had such a good game for Alexander.

Go Alex.

I know it wasn't the entire reason they lost last night, but Athens have always had the refs against them going back to the days when "The General" Skinner stalked the sidelines. Jealousy is a b*tch. It has carried over to the new coach. It's usually 8 against 5 when the dogs play, that is just a fact. Keep your heads high and push through Young Dogs!!

It's always a War when you play in The Alley. Last night was no different. What a battle!

No dog in this fight, but for Christ's sake, really? "that is just a fact"? Nothing "factual" about this post. Gee, there is always one team that never "loses" to a better team, they just get screwed, every game, right?!?!

Steely - The reason that I brought it up is because it it true when it comes to the Dogs. Always people compaining about enrollment numbers, etc. blah blah blah. It is rooted in jealousy and It affects the refs becase they are locals and most of them feel the same way even if they don't say it in public. People like to make fun of the whole "Glouster ref" quote in the paper, but the Coach said it to the reporter becuase it is true. And that's why the journalist printed it to, IMO. No reasonable person being honest can watch their games over the past 10 years and not see that there is a huge obvious bias against Athens. That sir, is a "Fact". I'm not complaining because like I tell my own little Bulldogs that haters are just going to hate. Gonna have to learn to deal with it wearing the Green and Gold.

Athens shoots 4 more free throws in a close game yet somehow got hosed? Some people need to get a grip on reality. One fan post about the negative body language and attitudes, kids quitting the program and yet it’s all still the officials fault??? Get a life.

haha. this post has to be a joke. I would suggest there is no reasonable person that would honestly believe this post. The game was officiated well. There was a phantom call on the Butcher kid, but I bet if you watch the tape there was probably something done that the ref was trying to address. There was equally a phantom call on a free throw against the Terry kids that sent the Alexander bench into a frenzy. Were the refs punishing the Spartans because the school is trying to put on an income tax levy? Come on, you can not honestly believe that the refs are against Athens and that is why you lost last nights game. The refs were not defending on the free throws and causing Athens to miss 10 FT in the second half.

The last sentence of the last post is the only one that makes any sense.
