Billy Hoyle wrote: Sun Jan 27, 2019 8:58 am Excellent job compiling a list this extensive. Always interesting in alot of ways when
browsing through these. Personally what's most obvious anymore are the number of players achieving the 1000 point barrier, and the frequency in which it is occurring. Increasing regular season to 22 games, less recently the 3 point shot, and let's face it, the evolution of offensive game planning that gets the great shooters/scorers as many looks as possible. (Kinda like how passing records have dropped like flies in football?) Appreciate all the effort involved by those who compiled it!!!
Just one small "bone to pick" however: the inclusion/exclusion of schools the players actually played for while eclipsing the 1000 point mark. This almost exclusively occurred in a HUGE consolidation era of the 1960's through early 1970's. Totally understand it is not with intent to omit these specifics, but should be noted imo. Here's what I have if there is anyway to make corrections:
-Glenn Burchwell and Bob Shaw played for Centralia, not Zane Trace (consolidation 1966)
-Ron Shoemaker and Vern Knapp played for Twin, not Paint Valley (consolidation 1959?)
-Carvel Simmons and Ron Storer played for Frankfort, not Adena (consolidation 1966)
-Jerry McDonald, Bill McDonald and Paul Large played for Clarksburg, not Adena (again 1966)
Again, REALLY not trying to be picky here, but once these references are lost, and the players get lumped in a school they did not attend, then the historical accuracy is gone forever...

Thanks I'll make the edits

Kyre Allison (2016)......1,688.......13
Craig Tubbs (1979)......1,485.......27
Larry Hisle (1965)......1,375.......tied at 40
Kendall Reynolds (2017)...1,341....45
Jeff Lisath (1978)........1,256......63
Dion McKinley (2012)....1,096......tied at 120
Wayne Evans (2012).....1,096......tied at 120
Damond Mannon (1992)...1,057....142
I would have thought with all the great players during the 80's there would be at least one 1000 point scorer. 3 names in particular come to mind: Patrick Tubbs, Kyle Taylor, and Chris Gentry. All 3 were All-State guards that played on strong teams that made deep tournament runs. Tubbs and Taylor were 3 year starters that led their teams in scoring multiple years. Not sure if Gentry was 3 year starter? Dave can you confirm the totals for these guys..

those three played for deep teams,a roster full of very capable scorers, from sophmores to seniors,Chris did not start until his junior season, played quite a bit as a sophmore, his Freshman year the Trojans were state championssophmore year ,undefeated and number one ranked team in Class AA, and junior year state runner ups. It was a great time to be a student at Portsmouth

Moses Guthrie: The problem that existed before I took on the task of recording the history of Portsmouth basketball was that there was little effort to keep track of many aspects of our history......one of them being the list of 1,000 point scorers. I started compiling information in the early 2000's, but there was only a very limited amount of info about the 1,000 club. Evidently no one kept track of career point totals for anyone in the 80's, so the list that I posted above most likely is not a complete list. I found out about Craig Tubbs total on a JJ Huddle post by someone who listed the top 50 or so scorers all time in the state. It was an official total, as is Kyre Allison's 1,688. The others listed are official, even Larry Hisle's, who graduated in 1965. Don't know why Hisle's totals were kept and not others like Tubbs, Taylor, Gentry, and Phil Whitehead.

Other schools have done a much better job at keeping track of their 1,000 point scorers.......I have been to a number of gyms where banners are posted on the wall listing members of the 1,000 club......Portsmouth doesn't have one. I've tried to do the best I can in compiling the list that exists......thanks to Eugene Collins who keeps track of his kids scoring totals.

To record every point that a player scores, starting from scratch, is a very difficult and time consuming affair. I don't know if we will ever know that official point totals of some players who probably did make the 1,000 club.

Jeremy McLeod from Western Latham is Pike County Boys all time leading scorer. Finished his career with 1975 Points.
I have the correct numbers for the rest of the 1000 Point scorers from Western somewhere in a file.

I'd bet the farm Pat Tubbs is 1000 point scorer. He averaged at least 17-19 for the Trojans for 3 years from 85-88 on teams that went to regionals and had a state championship. He was not injured or miss games for any other reason during that span..

Very fascinating. There are some names on that list that surprised me. Some I would’ve thought higher and others lower. It would be interesting to see the list broken down by school to see which team has the most.
