Athens at Waverly Sectional Championship Friday 02/18

Post by smurray »

The Bulldogs travel to Waverly on Friday after defeating the red & black Tigers of Circleville 49-41.
The Bulldogs will be looking to tame the orange & black Tigers in the jungle of the Downtown Arena but the Robertson brothers, the Futhey brothers, Stulley, Kelly, Morrison, Teeters and Co. will be looking to send the Bulldogs out with their tails tucked between their legs.

I remember Athens playing us and Caleb Wallis had like 27 at half on a crazy amount of steals…..

I think this game might resemble that game

Welch is a nice big guy in the middle for Athens

I think the Tigers have a goal in mind and are on a mission to make sure no one gets in the way of that. This is a special group of seniors and will be the last home game they play in "In the House that Hawhee built".

With that being said, I look for Waverly to come out hot and not look back! I'll take the Tigers by double digits

White out night for the Tigers, I think Waverly comes out white hot with a convincing win to make a deep run and finally get that monkey of their back of making it deep and falling short

Could Joe Burrow be in Hawhee’s palace tonight to watch his alms mater?

I think this game will be closer than most expect. 60-47 in favor of Waverly.

You are right - 67 - 34 is probably a little more reasonable. As long as the shots are falling. Sometimes teams that play only zone, are able to compete against better teams. everyone is going to have a night where the outside shots just dont fall

Finally have made it to tourney time. Waverly had a great regular season with an outright SOC 2 title. But I believe their #1 goal they have had since last season ended, is winning a regional championship. That’s what they have been working for every time they step foot in the gym. They played a crazy non league schedule for that reason. They have the experience and the talent to achieve that goal. And it all starts tonight.

Something this team has struggled with consistently throughout the season is coming out focused and jumping on teams early, especially in games that should never be close. That is a habit that needs to stop tonight. During tournament time, you have to come ready to play from the tip, or it is a recipe for disappointment.

I do believe waverly will come ready to roll and extremely focused on the task at hand. I think they win this one by 20+.

Waverly 41

Waverly's full court press is tough to beat
