... Warren entered this game at 1-2 on the young season, Meigs 3-1 with 6-8 sr. Carson Davis having scored his 1000th point in the Marauders last game vs Wellston where Davis knocked down 30 points on the night ... Coach Davis' Meigs squad with 2 All Ohio players in Davis & Colben Beucler, & all district PG Owen Tracy were favored vs a Warren team that had lost the first 9 players from last season's team to graduation ...early in the season, young team sporting 4 sophomores/3 juniors and 2 seniors with little varsity experience other than this season ... Coach Maddox & the staff are still in the figuring out where the points are coming from mode, players trying to get used to the strength/speed of the varsity game ... I had seen Warren beat Logan in the season opener back on Nov 28th ... this was a good chance to see if the Warrior youngsters were improving/"figuring it out" ... Meigs having lost the bigs from last season : 6-6, 6-5, 6-5, to both graduation and to transfer as 6-5 jr Reed Brinager had moved back to the Southern School District ... the 6-8 Davis was NOW the big man in the middle, as well as the number one scoring option, followed by Tracy and Beucler ... the Marauders themselves are trying find roles for anyone not named Davis/Tracy/Beucler and some depth off the bench ... the Game - one where both teams were trying find the pieces that make TEAM run most efficiently ... this one I believe had some answers for both teams ... Meigs 65 Warren 58 a final ...

... Meigs looked the "seasoned" team right off the tip - 4 of 5 starters scored in the opening quarter ... MHS jumped out to a 12-0 advantage with 3:59 left in the 1st period ... led by Owen Tracy's trey 3pts & coast to coast transition bucket ... Griffin Hudson added a putback bucket 2pts , Carson Davis picked up a bucket on the blocks 2pts and stepped out for a deep triple 3pts ... 12-0 Meigs ... 6-2 jr. Shawn Adams took the lid off the Warrior hoop sinking 1/2 from the FT line ... Hudson Elzey 6-0 sr a drive & finish 2pts ... Coach Maddox went to his bench as the starters mustered but 3pts in the qtr... enter sophomores Jackson Perdue 6-0 and 5-7 Liam Grosselin ... the duo contributed 10 pts in the final 3:29 of clock (Perdue a pair threes 6pt & 1/2 from the line/7pts ... Grosselin added a trey 3pts) ... Warren after being down 12-0 had their own 13-5 run to make this one a game ... Meigs 17 Warren 13 after 1 ... the offensive spark from the bench , allowed the defense to crank it up a notch as Warren held Meigs to 7 pts in the 2nd (Tracy 3pts/Davis 4pts) on 2 fgs & 3/4 from the line ... Warren picked up 2 more points from Perdue a basket in transition 2pts, & 8 pts from the starters - Caleb Tullius 4pts/6-3 soph Blake Grimes 2pts in the paint/ 6-0 jr PG Jaxon Venham 2pts with a midrange jumper from the FT line ... Warren after being down 12-0 in the first gathered the youngsters to go on a 23-12 run to close out the final 12 minutes & 1 second ... Meigs 24 Warren 23 at the half ... Basketball seems an easy game - put the ball in the basket, outscore your opponent ... Warren through their first 3 games struggled to find the "WHO" - Who was going to put the ball in the basket? the defense for the first 3 games was good, the offense which typically lags behind the defense struggled to find - scorers , a rhythm to the offense, consistent movement , a "go to " guy(s) ... from the Cheap Seats it LOOKED like questions were being answered - as the different lineups hit the floor you could see "when" there was a flow to the offense, defense that led to offense ... players who seemed to play well together as a group ... the highlights were coming from the youngin's , the sophs ... in the 3rd Warren was led by Perdue's 10 pts ( 2 three point buckets to go with a pair of drives to the rim without hesitation) & jr. Shawn Adams adding a three pointer (3pts) and a drive & score 2pts... Meigs picked up their scoring as Owen Tracy dropped a pair of midrange jumper 4pts and a drive to the rim 2pts / Carson Davis did Carson Davis things as the 6-8 big man went 2/2 from the FT line, drained a deep triple 3pts, got down on the block & finished at the rim for 2pts/7pts in the qtr/19 thru 3 qtrs ... Coach Davis had to be pleasantly surprised as Griffin Hudson added a key putback bucket 2pts and closed out with bucket in the lane 2pts/4 pts in the period which allowed Meigs to keep the lead going into the final 8 minutes ... Meigs 41 Warren 38 after 3 ... When you look at the Warren roster, size or the lack of size in the post is an issue ... Meigs with 6-8 Carson Davis in the post IS a definite advantage that at some point needed to be exploited - Coach Davis did just that at multiple key points in the final 8 minutes ... at 5:30 on the clock Miegs led 45-43 ... timeout ... Carson Davis scored from the post position coming out of the TO ... 3:06 on the clock ... timeout... Carson Davis scored in the post position again, 51-49 Meigs ... Davis scored from in the paint on 4 out of 5 possessions in the 4th period ... in all Davis tallied 16 points in the final period ... Warren didn't go away as the new found "go to" guy - soph Jackson Perdue - dropped 16 points on his own ball in the final 8 minutes - a couple of drive & finish "and 1's" ... a transition bucket 2pts ... 9/10 from the FT line ... Warren ended up with not enough support as Grimes 2pts/Tullius 2pts did not hold up vs Tracy's 2pts on a midrange jumper (4 midrange jumpers made in the game for Owen Tracy) ... Beucler's 2/2 from the line ... and the difference maker in the game - role player Griffin Hudson who chipped in 3 pts in the 4th period/9 total for the game ... Meigs 65 Warren 58 a final ...

Warren had zero answer when Meigs’ big boy was in the paint. But yet he spent much of the night shooting long jump shots from outside the key, fade aways from the corner, other poor shots off the dribble. Most of Meigs’ inside scoring came from the guards. Hard to understand how this young man is being utilized predominantly from the perimeter for the best interest of the team? That reason is very much what kept Warren in the game. I’d love to see this kid play under the direction of Warren’s staff. Game over.

Why do you think Davis would be better coached by another staff? Look at Ryan Davis record. It seems that after every game someone comments that Carson should be inside and not play outside.

Because people see 6’8 and think this is a year that isn’t 2025

I’ve seen him play inside and it isn’t a strength, so him having a variety of ways to score makes him more difficult to guard, in my opinion. I also enjoy there being backlash against them in a game where he scored 35

He’s been a part of a lot of wins in his high school career and his coach has been part of even more.

danicalfornia, yes his dad has a lot of wins in his coaching career. I was there on the bleachers and saw majority of them. Was there also when they beat Ironton to make it to the final four. He has had several all state first team, also second team and honorable mention is his career. One of the best in southern Ohio in opinion.
