Not many expected the Tigers to compete but they did exactly that. They will be better by playing this game.
We just gut Russell back, hopefully Kai is ok. He scored to cut it to 6 and came down wrong midway 4th quarter. Def going to need everybody healthy.

Super impressive, and super proud of my tigers, a little bit of a classless some would say layup at the end to get the lead to 10, but either way great showing by Waverly

Very good showing from the Tigers. A great experience for them, something they can learn from and build on.

Watched the Ironton/SW game and surprised that it wasn’t really all that competitive.

Re: the Waverly-Wheeling CC game, Tigers demonstrated they do not have weaknesses that can be exploited. Solid team. Did they benefit playing a team that had a hard-fought game 24 hours earlier? Probably. And Eli Sancomb (W. Va Player of the Year) had an off night. But this game tells me Waverly's floor is to win 15 or 16 games and maybe a couple more. Plus, they will play nobody else the rest of the season anything like Wheeling CC. On an individual note, Kage Alexander is very good. Looking forward to watching his development.

What’s more impressive to you, playing a good team really tight or being the only reason why that game was close? Because I think you did the impossible and gave Marietta credit for Waverly playing well tonight. Well done!

Maybe the Waverly fans can come on here and make up quotes from fictional Wheeling CC fans about the competitiveness of the game to let us know.

What was said that offended you? I thought the narrative was objective and complimentary to a very good Waverly team.

This past week showed more evidence of the number of teams which will be competitive against anyone and each other. Chesapeake, Waverly, Chillicothe, Jackson, Unioto, Circleville and others showing they’re in for a good ride this season.

And maybe add Ironton onto the list. Interested to see Pfloyd's take on their win over South Webster, by a larger margin than might have been expected.

I was there for the Ironton vs South Webster match up. 11 threes by Ironton and majority were wide open . Teams like Ironton and Fairland will shoot a lot of threes so you better pick it up defensively. I thought it would have been a closer game. South Webster made a little run in the 3rd quarter but just couldn't keep it up.

I don't want to make too much of one game but going into this game I thought it would be fairly even. Is Ironton a little stronger than expected or is South Webster not quite as good as some speculated? Or is just this one game so no conclusions should be drawn? Or is it just too early in the season to tell? Lots of questions but since you were there any additional insights welcomed.

I’d chalk it up as one game. The Tigers might not shoot as well as they did in the first half the rest of the year. Ironton came in forcing an average of 22-23 turnovers a game & SW guards handled the full court pressure well & created several early layups that were missed in transition. According to pflyod’s napkin stats SW only had 8 TO’s. SW couldn’t make anything all game. Definitely their worst shooting performance of the year. You’ll have games like that but whenever the opponent is making everything it can ugly quick & that’s what we saw in the 1st half. Take away the 1st qtr & it’s a 1 point difference the rest of the way even with how poor the Jeeps shot the ball. SW will be vulnerable to these performances here & there as they only have 2 players with significant varsity experience on the roster but they’re also talented enough to beat most on any given night. Still lots of things that need fixed but the coaching staff will fix it. SOC3 play will be tough as will their remaining non conference schedule but come tournament time I think they will be much improved & ready to make a run at another district title & possibly beyond. Credit the Tigers for a great performance but personally I’d chalk this up as just a “off” game. Excited to see how the Jeeps respond @ Symms Valley!

Excellent additional context. Jeeps win their next one by 22.
