... the Battle for the #1 spot in Pfloyd's Elite 8 rankings ... #1 Miami Trace and its 28 game regular season win streak on the line vs the #2 Jackson Ironmen looking to snap a 6 game losing streak to the Panthers of MT ... Big game in FAC league play as the winner gets a leg up in league action with the loser falling into a tie for 2nd place ... Miami Trace had just gone into Hatton Gymnasium last weekend getting a big league win over the Cavs 54-47 ... Jackson won't see Chillicothe until 1/16 ... tonight WAS a big game - a MT win means they would have knocked off both league challengers within a weeks time - Cavs on the road and a W vs the Ironmen would have them holding serve at home and having less pressure in round 2 on the road at JHS ... a Jackson win would have them stealing a valuable road W putting pressure on MT to get the must win at Jackson in late January/early February ...
... both teams came out of the box feeling out their opponent which in the case of 2 football opponents means they pitted physicality vs physicality ... players tested the waters as to what was going to be called by the officials and what wasn't ... in the end neither team put up many points in the opening 8 minutes BUT Jackson did pick up key fouls on both Charlie Woodard & Cj Crabtree - both assigned to cover 6-8 sr. post player Adam Guthrie ... each ended up spending time on the bench with 2 fouls in the opening quarter ... eventually Wolford/Crabtree ended up with 3 fouls by the end of 2 quarters of action while the big man for Miami Trace had none in the first 16 minutes of action ... scoring in the first - Miami Trace , 2 fgs - one each by Adam Guthrie and 6-6 soph Ty Huffman both scoring in the paint ... both going 1/2 from the FT line to complete MTs scoring in the first ... Jackson's scoring was all from behind the 3 point line as 5-9 sr. Jax Carroll drained 2 treys 6pts and Stephen Jenkins 6-2 sr added a deep ball 3pts ... Miami Trace 24 Jackson 21 after 2 ... the Ironmen with foul trouble hanging over their heads to begin the 3rd period HAD DONE good in holding the talented soph PG Gage Bowers scoreless in the opening 16 minutes of action ... sr. two guard Luke Armstrong - also scoreless in the opening 2 qtrs ... Miami Trace's roster is full of talent beyond the 6-8 Guthrie , holding any of the lineup scoreless for multiple periods is a win - right up until it's not , when talent scores ... Luke Armstrong broke the ice from behind the arc with a three pointer ( the only trey for MT on the night 1 for 8 from three) and the ever present big man in the middle Adam Guthrie did Adam Guthrie things - scored in the paint, at the rim, with bodies all around & on him - 3 fgs in the period 6pts ... Re: Miami Trace 54 Jackson 49 a final ...
Great recap as always, @pfloyd .
It was an interesting one! I feel like neither team played to their full potential... BUT... that's often what happens when good teams play good teams! They force each other to be a little uncomfortable.
MT finished very well at the rim, and they had to be TOUGH to do it. There were very few gimmies, which was evident by the foul counts.
Jackson was the opposite, just could not make the easy ones.
Congrats to MT for finding a way to win this one, it was not the game I was anticipating.

Two of the best coaches in SE District. And no slight against Coach Morrow, but know one coaches defense like Coach Ackley.

This might be a weird take but i feel like Chilli is more talented than Jackson and should beat them, but will most likely get out coached.

I'm a Jackson fan, have watched them for decades, but they haven't proven that they can win the games they aren't SUPPOSED to win. Big games haunt them. I hope they turn that around this year.ZTPMM88 wrote: Sat Dec 27, 2025 5:20 amI'm envisioning a split...TheOHIOBully wrote: Thu Dec 25, 2025 9:19 pm This might be a weird take but i feel like Chilli is more talented than Jackson and should beat them, but will most likely get out coached.
My humble opinion, they should have beat MT but seemingly refused to run the offensive sets that were working. I've seen that for years.
With all of that said, Chilli is very skilled/talented, and I feel that the team is bought into Coach's vision. That is worth more than athletic ability and some talent.
Give me a team that wants to be there and dig deep for 32 minutes, and they'll beat PLENTY of teams they "shouldn't" beat.
No FAC team, including Jackson, is safe from that.
Re: Miami Trace 54 Jackson 49 a final ...
Don't think it is fair to say Jackson SHOULD have beat Miami Trace...especially at their home gym. Eager to see the next game at Jackson.bc181700 wrote: Mon Dec 29, 2025 3:40 pmI'm a Jackson fan, have watched them for decades, but they haven't proven that they can win the games they aren't SUPPOSED to win. I'd take Chillicothe straight up over Jackson. Seen them both. Both very capable teams and should be a good battle.TheOHIOBully wrote: Thu Dec 25, 2025 9:19 pm This might be a weird take but i feel like Chilli is more talented than Jackson and should beat them, but will most likely get out coached.
Re: Miami Trace 54 Jackson 49 a final ...
I apologize, that's misleading on my part. I only meant SHOULD have based on the final few minutes of the game. Jackson with a pair of missed, essentially uncontested layups that would've given them the lead, going away from the offensive sets that were creating very open looks, etc. I think Jackson let a really, really good and RARE opportunity slip away. That senior class for Jackson is still winless against MT in their high school careers... I think MT should be the favorite to win every FAC matchup this year, IMO.ZTPMM88 wrote: Mon Dec 29, 2025 3:54 pmDon't think it is fair to say Jackson SHOULD have beat Miami Trace...especially at their home gym.
