Marietta 72. Meigs 34.
I’ll watch a replay of this game tomorrow on Hudl. Thoughts from those who watched it? What caused this 38-point beatdown? I have opinions but will hold off until I see more and learn more.

Watch the replay. Daddy ball doesn't cut it when you play a quality opponent. Marietta was never threatened, when Meig's best, and biggest player, was almost always at the top of the key, looking to chuck up a three.
Doing someone else's Dirty Work....

The refs got us back for last year. They made sure there wouldn’t be any last second chances. 8 v. 5 is tough to beat. Even tougher when daddy ball is a factor.

The refs weren't hitting all those open 3's. Meigs got caught in a rain storm without an umbrella.

Really? Go watch the game again on video — Meigs was outplayed and out-coached dramatically. And one of Marietta’s Tigers leading scorers sat most of the first half with foul trouble.Diamond*D1* wrote: Sat Jan 03, 2026 12:10 pm The refs got us back for last year. Have you seen shooting stats for this game? Tigers were unbelieveable on defense but only about average for a good team on offense and in terms of shooting percentage.Bigtimefan wrote: Sat Jan 03, 2026 12:38 pm The refs weren't hitting all those open 3's. Just go ask Meigs parents, fans. I’m not debating this point.Diamond*D1* wrote: Sat Jan 03, 2026 12:59 pmHow you gonna say the best coach in SEO, I read that on another thread, got out coached?SouthEast Hoops Fan wrote: Sat Jan 03, 2026 12:56 pmReally? Re: Marietta 72. Meigs 34.
I'd love to see the stats. Felt like they shot 60-70% from three the first half. Wittekind dominated and really could have had 45-50 points of they wanted to run it up. Owen Tracy is really the only true basketball player Meigs has. He has a role and plays it well. 3 of the other guys are athletes who play basketball. They do what they can.SouthEast Hoops Fan wrote: Sat Jan 03, 2026 12:58 pmHave you seen shooting stats for this game? Whatever you call it, I agree that he left to play team basketball.

Once they let Marietta into the TVC the should push Meigs down into the Hocking. They have become the “Hannan of the Ohio Division”. Probably able to beat Federal Hocking and Belpre occasionally.

Actually, when we get the actual stats we will find Marietta’s 3-point shooting was in the 30% - 40% range, even in the first half.Bigtimefan wrote: Sat Jan 03, 2026 2:08 pmI'd love to see the stats. Re: Marietta 72. Meigs 34.
Watched the video replay and tried to construct a shot chart. Quick observations:
1. Marietta's defense was smothering on Davis and Beucler. Totally shut down. They combined for 2 points until the running clock came into play at the 4:06 mark of the 3rd Period. Trey Hawkins on-ball defense against Davis was relentless.
2. Davis finished 1-for-12 from 3. Meigs was 3-for-21 from 3. Marietta was 14-for-31 (45%) from 3 overall and only 37% in the first half. Lots of offensive rebounds.
3. Wittekind for Marietta was 5-for-7 from 3 and 12-for-19 overall for 33 points. He had 33 with 5:46 left in the game.
4. Remarkably, Marietta shot below 50% for the game (even made less than half of their shots in the paint).
5. Owen Tracy for Meigs displayed a solid floor game and mid-range jump shots for 14 points.

Re: Marietta 72. Meigs 34.
The stats posted are additional confirmation of what fans saw Friday night in Marietta. Strategic defensive game plan that completely frustrated Meigs throughout. Marauders got very few good looks at the basket led by Trey Hawkins on Carson Davis and Lucas Miller on Colben Beucker. Tigers have won four straight and against some good ball clubs with combined records of 22-7. Barring injury/sickness this team not likely to lose many more. They've played only two home games to date and faced the best D-III team in the Southeast/East region (Steubenville) and the likely West Virginia state champions (Wheeling Central Catholic).

Re: Marietta 72. Meigs 34.
Did you watch the game? How did the refs favor Marietta? Why bring up last year? I'll admit last year was a disaster at Meigs, the error in the last 3 seconds and most of the game. But this was so different -- one coach who seemingly didn't realize what the other team was going to do and the other who had his team superbly prepared.Diamond*D1* wrote: Sat Jan 03, 2026 12:10 pm The refs got us back for last year. Re: Marietta 72. Meigs 34.
Looking at its remaining schedule, Meigs has a fair chance to win nine in a row beginning Tuesday night and all the way into the second week of February. No guarantees but if they regroup they can finish 17-5 or so.
