GAHS outlasts Coal Grove, 54-46
Host Gallipolis Gallia Academy outlasted visiting Coal Grove 54-46 in an Ohio Valley Conference cage game on the Centenary hardwood Tuesday evening.
The victory left Gallipolis 4-3 overall and 3-2 in OVC action. The Hornets dropped to 2-6 overall.
Gallipolis will open play in the Southeastern Ohio Athletic Friday by hosting defending SEOAL champion Warren Local. Coal Grove will battle Rock Hill in an OVC contest Friday.
Gallipolis led 16-9 after one period Tuesday, and 28-22 at halftime. The Hornets outscored GAHS 17-10 in the third period to take a 39-38 lead going into the final period.
In the final canto, the lead exchanged hands once the the score was tied once, 44-44 with 2:20 remaining after a three by Dan Rutherford.
A charity toss by Wes Jarrell put GAHS ahead 45-44 with 2:11 left to play. GAHS was never headed.








Rutherford led Coal Grove’s attack with 20 points. Angelo added 12. Coal Grove sank 17 of 51 field goal attempts for 33 percent. At the line, CGHS was a cool 41 percent, sinking only nine of 22 foul shots. The Hornets picked off 23 rebounds, had 15 personal fouls and 12 turnovers.
Jarrell led Gallia scorers with 15 points. Miles Cornwell added 13, Devin Henry nine and Justin Peck six.
Gallipolis sank 17 of 49 field goal attempts for 34.6 percent. At the line, GAHS sank 18 of 25 for 72 percent.
Gallipolis picked off 40 rebounds, led by Jarrell’s 14 snags. GAHS had 15 personal fouls and 18 turnovers.

Gallipolis also captured the reserve game, 57-48, to improve to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in OVC play. The Little Hornets dropped to 2-6 on the year.
















Gallipolis led 16-8 after one period, but trailed 25-23 at halftime. The Blue Imps led 45-36 after three periods.
Al Roman paced the Hornets with 13 points. Damian Giles added 10.
Kaden Thomas led GAHS with 16 points. Braden Simms added 12, Cody Call 9, and Justice Sellers seven.

Blue Devils got a tough one coming up F riday against defending SEOA champion Warren Local.
