End of 3rd quarter

Wheelersburg 44
Valley 31

Burg just needs to take care of the ball and continue to run the offense and they will be okay.

Final

Wheelersburg 55
Valley 41

Very impressive defensive effort by the Pirates against a Valley team that had been dominating their competition. Great job by the Burg of slowing Valley down and making them play a half court game instead of the run and gun style they like. Tom Barrick once again proves why he is one of the best coaches in the area.

The Pirates take an early lead in the SOC II and are 3-0 in conference play and 4-0 overall.

Two points jump out at me on the stats from Valley, 3 out of 19, 15% from the 3 point arc AND 10 out of 20, 50% from the free throw line.

Zaide and Tyler gave the Pirates big minutes and production off the bench for the young Pirates.

Not the Indians best game by far. They seemed very rushed in the half court offense and took too many forced/contested shots. Wheelersburg did a great job of pressuring the indians and making it difficult for them to get into the lane. Valley was cold tonight shooting from deep which is part contributed to the lack of penetration, and kick outs for open looks.

Can't wait to see the rematch in Lucasville. I think it will be a doozy of a game.

good win for pirates. valley came into the burg expecting to win. defensive pressure too much for them to handle. what's up with the "you fouled me" dive at the end of every three pointer? the first time might make an official think. the tenth time makes you look silly. just make the shot and maybe you won't have to beg for freebies from the stripe.

You just don't have a clue do you. Just which freshman do you think are the same age as the sophs or juniors? I think there is only one freshman on the varsity and that is Zaide Whitley and I don't believe he was held back. Even if he was, can you prove it was just for sports. There are lots of reasons to hold kids back and some have to go to pre-kindergarten which puts them a year behind.

Valley has prekindergarten too now. And it is good for the kids.

Fianal Thought on this one: AS I posted earlier , Valley is playing well but Burg just shut down the dribble penetration in the second half, if Valley gets a couple of foul calls in the first quarter on Stegman on those blocks maybe it is a different game. Was not a real good group of officials for a big early game like this, but take nothing away from Burg even though Barrick is not the most likeable guy he had his team ready to play and Burg is really young with no seniors on the roster.
