With Harvest Prep losing yesterday to Africentric, it marked the 30th consecutive year that a D3 school coming out of the Athens regional did not win the state title. Since the OHSAA went to 4 divisions in 1988, 11 SE district schools, Southeastern Ross, Belpre, Wheelersburg, Ironton, North Adams, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Piketon, Lynchburg Clay, Eastern Brown, Fairland, and Unioto have all advanced to the D3 state from the Athens regional, but none have come away with the state championship trophy. Only Unioto in 1991, Belpre in 1993, Wheelersburg in 1995, Ironton in 2005, and Portsmouth in 2012 have won a state semifinal game, but all finished state runnerup. Overall the schools listed have a record of 5-16.

Chillicothe won the D2 state title in 2008 coming out of the Athens regional, while South Webster and Oak Hill won the Columbus regional en route to their state championships, 2006 and 2009 respectively. Portsmouth's won the D2 Dayton regional on their way to winning the 1988 state title.

North Adams lost to Miami East in the D3 State Semifinal. There is a misprint that they finished second or won a semi

LucasDavenport: My post above has been edited to include North Adams as a semifinalist. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Sooner or later, a D3 school from the SE will break the 30 year hex. But they most likely will have to get by a Columbus school in the regional unless the OHSAA allows two SE schools and two East schools to make up the regional.

No problem. If a D3 team gets through now with Columbus being represented in Athens then they might be better prepared !!

Last year a few Fairland people thought they would defeat VASJ or were favored over VASJ. I remarked in the State Tournament thread from last year that if you win a Regional in Athens and don’t defeat a Central team then you really don’t know how good you are.

It’s also interesting that you had North Adams winning a semi in 96 because they truly did win that one.

Thanks formerfcfan!! 1st game to eclipse 10,000

I got it from here, so I know it has to be right this time! http://ohsaa.org/Portals/0/Sports/Baske ... /game6.pdf

I was told that SVSM brought more people than Trotwood-Madison did in their game versus Meadowbrook, based on the eye test from a buddy there.
