You are correct , I coached many years Track & Field. Had to apply every year, when I decided to hang it up I didn't resign, just didn't apply for the position. I think it is the norm at most schools.

Anyone that applies for the Southeastern job needs their head examined. This will be their 4th coach in 5 years. It won’t be Skeens, either. He has a daughter in college to go watch.

I know most coaches are on one year contracts, however, I don't know how common it is to have to reapply. Usually, unless there is question as to whether the coach should be retained by the board, they are simply renewed.

Supplementals in all Public Schools are renewed/nonrenewed every school year. There are technically no 2, 3 or 4-year contracts. There might be a verbal agreement but if you are a school employee you must apply every year. If a teacher does not apply and that job is open then they open it up to the general public and across the State.

Our school actually has adopted that if you are a school employee, certified or classified, you are eligible for a three year contract. Supplementals are non union negotiated.

Hopefully Wellston opens up. Or I fear might not just see kids leaving to j-town for football but to there and VC for roundball as well.

I've heard this rumor as well, but if it was confirmed you'd think it would be all over Preps.

Can you confirm this? The name being 'rumored' as the favorite to land the position if it opens up would be a SEOPreps board breaker.

If this is true, they would be stupid not to hire Cory McKnight. He has an excellent track record as a head coach @ Alexander for their girls. He resigned a couple of seasons ago after a regional run to move back home and is an assistant on Ironton now.

Just curious, I have been around the Preps for a lot of years but I am ignorant about what a "SEOPreps board breaker is....?? Could someone elaborate on that statement.......thanks in advance if you know......

Hopefully the Ironton board will look out of Ironton for the replacement, because they did it for football and it was a huge move. The guys that are at Ironton as assistants can’t get it done. There are some good ones not from Ironton that would definitely be interested.

bbjunky: great job like Ironton opening up will make for an interesting few months on here. I can personally think of 3 current coaches that would qualify as "board breakers" and Ironton would make sense on a few levels for each one of them.*

For the sake of Ironton I hope it is someone not tied to Ironton already because they made an awesome move getting pendelton. He had no ties to Ironton and their football program is going to get back on track.

The Ironton job is officially open? Has Southeastern hired a new head coach?
