The Red Flashes would technically count.

Hillsboro Marshall made it in 1927: State Semifinal, Class B Tournament and then won it all in 1928.

They beat Manchester 20-17.
Their record that year was 25-4.
Their coach was Noah Embry

I’ll try to find or post W-L records too.

1934-Waterloo: 34-0 - Magellan Hairston
1935-Waterloo: 63-3 (disputed) Magellan Hairston
1952- Nelsonville: 23-4 -Alfred Cole
1961- Portsmouth: 22-3- George Heller
1978- Portsmouth: 19-7 - Richard Hopkins
1980- Portsmouth: 21-6 - Richard Hopkins
1982- Southern Meigs: 26-2 - Carl Wolfe
1984- Wheelersburg: 23-5 - Mike Lovenguth
1988- Portsmouth: 27-1 - Joe Suboticki
1990- Portsmouth: 24-3 - Joe Suboticki
1991- Unioto: 24-3 - Ron Lovely
1993- Belpre: 25-2 - Joe Garrett
1995- Wheelersburg: 23-4 - Tom Barrick
2005- Ironton: 26-1 - Roger Zornes
2006- South Webster: 26-2 - Mark Kriescher
2008- Chillicothe: 25-2 - Gary Kellough
2009- Oak Hill: 25-2 - Norm Persin
2012- Portsmouth: 25-3 - Gene Collins

For the 1930 Rome Team, I cannot find a record and that their coaches name was Phoney Smith. They lost 34-3 in the State Championship.

They say to make a final 4 a lot has to go right. You need really good players, really good coaches and some luck. Waverly has had all 3 and here’s to hoping they win the next one. 🍻

These Tigers were built 4 this. They’ve never ever been the biggest but they’ve always had the biggest hearts.
Two games at the Convo their shooting was off but they figured out a way to win - DEFENSE and Trey time at the end. If Dayton Arena is more kind to the Tiger shooters, they have a real shot at playing for a State Title on Sunday.

Shooting percentages usually go down the farther you go because the opposing defense is going to be better. The key is to find other ways to score. Like the other Robertson kid hitting those crucial threes agains McClain or futhey having a good night until tre got hot against Heath. But Waverlys chances are on the shoulders of tre who has been nothing short of awesome so far. He’s fun to watch. Wherever he lands in college they are going to get a gym.

Good Luck to Waverly on Friday. Stay the course and do as you always do. Hopefully Waverly will not get caught up in all the hoopla that goes with going to State. It will go quick-fans hopefully will let the players do as they do all other games- seen many teams get caught up and distracted from all the going on- go to school, go to practice and prepare for the game. Have your celebrations after the weekend. Stay the Course.

I pray you are right. Defense and level of competition definitely have a cause for a dip but we are talking about the % flatline at some points.

Trey is shooting a lot more contested threes but he isn’t hitting many of his open ones either. While others aren’t seeing the same fall off.

I think Braylon is a huge key moving forward for the offense. It really helps having 3 deep threats out there . I felt like the three he hit early on against Heath helped Trey settle in a little. But this deep in the tournament his defense may become a problem. He was blown by a few times in the past game. Penny’s height and athleticism really helped. Will be interesting to see how they are used moving forward. Really liked seeing them go over the top more when they were sucking in on Trey. I have a feeling we will see a couple of new sets this week designed for Friday’s game to combat that extra love Trey gets up top.

Just don’t be satisfied with going there, Waverly.
Shock the State and win it.
I posted this elsewhere and somebody mentioned Corning in the 40's and Shawnee in 1938

Both would be considered Miller now. Perry County, Southeast district.

Waverly will be looking to end a SE district streak of 6 straight losses in the state semifinals, dating back to 2013. Warren in D2 and Ironton in D3 lost in the 2013 semifinals, Lynchburg Clay lost in the D3 semifinals in 2016, Fairland lost in the D3 semifinals in 2017, Sheridan lost in the D2 semifinals in 2019, and New Boston lost in the D4 semifinals in 2021. Portsmouth was the last SE school to win its semifinal game, that being a 74-66 win over Ottawa-Glandorf in 2012. OG won the D3 state title the very next season, beating Ironton in the semifinals.

Let’s all hope the Tigers do indeed break this streak…. The Waverly Final 4 shirts say: BUILT 4 This
This team was indeed built for this moment. Travis Robertson is the best in the area at scouting and game planning and these young men have faced about every obstacle and played very good completion over the years to get them to this point.
If anyone in the southeast district could do it in D2 it’s these Tigers.

Too many people trying to purchase tickets at the same time and kicking people off. The issue I’m sure is assigned seats and folks selecting the same seats as others.

I remember watching on TV the game between Dayton Chaminade and Waverly back in 1970. I have been very impressed with the defense the Tigers have played this season. Everybody knew how good Trey is but I didn't realized how good the defense was until I watched the Valley game. Good luck to the Waverly Tigers from your fellow SOC members.

Doesn't help the middle 8 sections (2 lower and 2 mid level on each side) weren't even listed available to purchase. I assume they're reserved for families, Admins, scouts etc

I kinda hate that they're shoving you in the corner or behind the basket for a seat but I got ours bought and extremely excited!! Waverly fans WIPED OUT a bunch of tickets early!! Love seeing us get all the support. Go Tigers!
