Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2025-26
Basketball is the same as football for Portsmouth... talented kids but can't do anything with it due to poor coaching.

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2025-26
RheaRipley: Thanks for the compliment.
The Trojans played about even with Hamilton Township and Canal Winchester on Saturday, then fared pretty well at Bexley. PHS travels to Lynchburg Clay on Tuesday and will scrimmage at Northwest on Thursday, beginning at 5:30; Peebles will also be there.
With the freshmen class playing both varsity and JV, I look for the JV Trojans to be near the top of the OVC this season. Won the 8th grade OVC title last year. Plans are for the frosh to play 6 quarters a night, and they will play meaningful minutes on the varsity.

Rose Hill Christian Academy was the school OJ played for. Just came to meMeanJoeGreene wrote: Wed Nov 12, 2025 2:32 pm Awesome stuff Dave. Do you remember a 7th grader who played on the Varsity team for Royal (kentucky school, can't remember the name) named OJ Mayo? That was an interesting contest. The Trojans won handily but it was very interesting to see a 7th grader going against varsity. That game was at the old gym in town.

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2025-26
Rich Blackburn: I remember that game well. I was in Pensacola, FL, for Navy Training and I listened to the last 3 minutes on the phone thanks to my Dad. I remember another game that my Dad hooked up the phone and the radio; I was in East St.Louis (stationed at Scott AFB) and listened to the last few minutes of PHS vs. South Point on a pay phone in 1986. The Trojans won that sectional game 46-45.
That Steubenville team was considered one of the best in that school's history.

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2025-26
TrojanDave , since youre the Portsmouth basketball historian , whatever happened to Kyle Taylor ? He played for Marshall , 84-85 season I believe . I thought he would be on the 1000 point list also .
After thinking about it , I think he transferred to Xavier , but I may be wrong

Sad to hear of Chris' passing. Although he wasn't a starter on that 1988 team, he was an important player off the bench. May God comfort his family in their loss.

84Dragon: Kyle played for Marshall and Xavier and actually scored in the NCAA basketball tournament for the Musketeers. He didn't score 1,000 points only because he was an unselfish player. He averaged just under 15 PPG his senior year of 1984. Today Kyle keeps himself in great physical condition.....I saw him last year and was trim and fit. He also was an excellent baseball player. He made First Team All-Ohio for the Trojans in 1984 and was inducted into the PHS Hall of Fame.

Portsmouth did very well in their scrimmage vs. Lynchburg Clay @Lynchburg; had a 20 point lead at one point and won by about 12.
