This is one of the most pathetic things I’ve ever seen. I’m sure Naylan’s age caused Athens to miss free throws. Naylan’s age caused butcher to travel multiple times. His age is the reason Speakman took over the game in overtime. His age is the reason Hamon had 17 points. Grow up. You’re a grown man staying up until 2:00 in the morning just to bash a teenager that’s still a senior in high school and his family for making what seems to be a pretty good decision with him playing D1 football and the potential to get an academic scholarship to most schools.

morehead state wrote: Sat Feb 24, 2018 12:08 am VC and Athens was a great game. Hats off to VC the better team won. Either you make shots or you do not. Fantastic comeback to put the game into OT for Athens and VC good luck next game. The posters can say all they want and try to get acclaim. Not one college coach anywhere reads this. Proud of Yates going to the next level in football. He and Speakman deserve POY and All TVC is simply a political decision. SE Ohio is not good in hoops so parents enjoy hs . Athens loses the most unappreciated PG in SE Ohio. Hopefully politics is not a factor next season and a reserve player takes that spot along with Williams. Go Vikings and congrats to Athens for the winning streak when the politics was forced to end.
So what are you saying? Is AAU where a player really has a chance? Should a player who really wants a chance to play at the next level try to play for an AAU team that has a top exposure tournament schedule and not have their hopes set in college coaches coming to games in SE OHIO during the HS season?
Well, yeah, college recruiting in the sport of basketball is done through the summer AAU circuit, college coaches are in season during basketball season, with multiple games a week in travel. The summer months is where talent is identified, and they will/can follow up during the season.

Its not all bad. ... U always have next year.
Better for VC they have next WEEK. Enjoy your night on your tear soaked pillow.
VC= TVC CHAMPS
VC= SECTIONAL CHAMPS
VC= POY
MIC DROPPED!!!
Cant argue FACTS!!!
When you have a 19 1/2 yr Old that carries your team-held back for Sports. You will have that. Imagine Chubb in 3 years, he was not held back but could have easily been, and after what he showed you tonight at Just turning 16 and you have Yates who turned 19 in November. No comparison. 16 1/2 versus 19 1/2. Get a life people. You won on a clear unfair advantage.
Aren't you the one calling everyone on here millenials? And now you're saying that your team lost, the game was unfair.
Vision is always about excuses.

High school, AAU, southeast Ohio, Alaska ... Doesn't matter, if you are good - they will find you.

well sorta, Ibby Watson didn't leave The Plains for no reason. As for Vision, I'm assuming he's just now getting about of bed, suffering from a long night of jack Daniels LOL

Ibi would have been just fine staying at Athens.

He was recruited via AAU before he even left for Pick

Sure. Keep telling yourself that. The talent he played with at pick helped him keep that recruitment.

Well, considering how things have worked out for him, maybe that big recruitment was not the best thing. And yes, Ibi was already being recruited by Michigan before he left, as well as about all the MAC schools in Ohio.

This age thing is ridiculous. There is a Fed Hock boy that plays varsity as a freshman that will 19 his senior year? So, should he not play? This is pathetic. Athens lost, get over it. Also, Athens has a freshman that will 19 his senior year. Should Athens win out the 2020-2021 season, can we all say they had an unfair advantage because they had a 19 year old player? Lol

He is getting a great education, and he's also very unhappy with his playing time, or lack there of. Very well may be somewhere else next year finishing that education. At the end of the day it's his choice, and as a fan, I'll support his choice whatever that may be.

Naylan Yates, because, of what I call, lovingly, his red-shirt, has done wonderful things for him. First, and foremost, he had enjoyed wonderful careers in football and basketball. If he had chose to play baseball, he would have put stellar years together for that sport as well. However, he re-wrote two history books with his records in football and basketball, and will be a Vinton County Athletic Hall of Famer in the very near future.

But, I will say that had nothing to do with his age, he was same athlete at 15 that he is at 19, but what it does have to do with it, is his work ethic. The young man worked his tail off, hundreds of trips to ApPrep in Chillicothe, being in the gym shooting basketballs, throwing routes to his brother and teammates, and most importantly, watching what he put into his body. He does not drink soda, his does not eat high sugar and/or process foods, he pays attention to his nutrition which is extremely rare for a kid his age.

He is also a 4.0 student, academically, his red-shirt year helped. Because of this, he could take the "preferred walk-on" position at Ohio University. He turned down several DII offers so that he could be near his family and reach his goal.

He had a goal in middle-school, he knew what it would take to get there, and he did it. He wanted to be a DI athlete, and he wanted to go to medical school, and he wanted to get it paid for, how was he going to do that? Just the way he did.

Now that he is a part of the Bobcat family, they have no idea of what, or who they are getting. He will be all-in, he will continue to work his tail off, he will get better, and I would not be surprised if he is not breaking records at Ohio University. If not, he will still be Dr. Yates.

and that the reason he was not playing at Meigs!!!! They would not hold him back in the 6th grade with a 4.0 so they went back to Vinton County

Great post! Plenty of parents hold kids back and the opportunity is squandered academically and athletically by a lot of those kids. Unfortunately the kids who work the hardest seem to catch the most flak for it and never get credit for their hard work. The credit should go to the kids for taking advantage of the opportunity given. Don’t know him but he Sounds like a great kid and I wish him well in the future. Can never have too many doctors 😀
