No but I promise you Fayetteville is as physically cal as CG. CG has better basketball players though.

Don’t think anyone here called you over rated just think your under rating Peebles.

Coal Grove has more talent and depth

Peebles has the best player and the better coach (not knocking Vanderhoof, Arey has just been here before)

I think it'll be a tight game but Coal Grove pulls away and wins by 7-8 range

Coal Grove 59
Peebles 52

I'm happy to see my preseason D4 regional pick, Coal Grove, make it to the Sweet 16. I haven't seen Peebles, but I am happy for Coach Arey whom I have had a lot of good basketball conversations with. Also congratulations to Peebles fan Hoopie74.

The Hornets' physical duo of Sam Angelo and Jeb Jones is tough to handle in the paint, but CG can also do damage from the perimeter, with Borders being able to knock down multiple 3's. Aaron Music does a good job at the point. Coal Grove is not a racehorse team, but more methodical in their offensive approach. They have the ability to defend in either zone or man, and made open looks for South Webster difficult to come by.

I don't think this regional has a prohibitive favorite, so that's why the Hornets could win two more games and make this special season even more special.

Does the winner of this game have a shot vs. Berlin Hiland?

I think Coal Grove would have a shot, but would be a 6-10 point underdog. Peebles, not so sure. Of the two I definitely think Coal Grove could make it interesting vs. Berlin.

I watched the Hawks last year in the D3 regional final, and I thought that Fairland had their way with them. Hiland may be better this year, but Coal Grove has played a very strong schedule for a D4 school. They played Fairland twice (regional in D2), D2 Gallia Academy twice (20-4), and D3 Portsmouth twice (16-8). They went 3-3 in those games. They also went to a Christmas tournament down South and did well. If Peebles were to beat Coal Grove, I think they would have a decent shot at winning the regional, but I think the Hornets' physical style of play could pose problems for Hiland.

There's a lot of pressure in a regional final game. The favorite doesn't always win, and it's not a best of 7 series. Just one win away from the state.

Trojandave: I always respect your opinions ,but; Hiland hasn't won their side of the bracket yet. I'm sure my Indians will make it a game Tuesday and it wouldn't surprise me if they get the upset and move on. Good luck to all who aren't playing the Indians. Have a great day Trojandave.

Hoopie74 you were a big supporter of our Clay panthers last year in the regional. Now I return the favor good luck and hope to see the Indians in the finals.
Thanks Gold and Blue. I have been a fan of any team from southeastern Ohio since 1969 when I first started getting really involved with basketball. Love our teams and communities. Love the way basketball lovers in this part of the state lift up the area teams. Go Southeastern Ohio. But right now Go Peebles ,Indians. If we drop out I will be in the stands following whoever moves on.
The Clay v GCC game was late first quarter and I noticed that no one was updating. I made my updating debut that night. That game was amazing.

Hoopie: I was especially impressed with Browning last night —- had watched him earlier in the season and didn’t notice much. Goodness did he excel on both ends on Saturday vs Green. He made everything go. Arey is special but we knew that. Coal Grove dismantled us yesterday. You guys have more scoring power than we do and perhaps can out score them. They are a different animal though.
Browning has had just two jobs all year. Run the point, play good defense and never come out of the game. He flies under the radar. Coach must have turned him loose a little in the district final game. That game isn't a fluke. Browning has it in his genes. His grandpa was 1st team all state in 1973 and was recruited by Bob Knight for Indiana. Chuck Johnson stayed home and raised a family. Hard nosed Weston Browning will be ready to rock Tuesday night in the Sweet 16.

If Fairfield Christian somehow beats Hiland, I think the CG/Peebles winner becomes a clear favorite to head to Columbus.

You realize coal groves losses are to Fairland twice, gallia academy, then turn around and beat them by 21, the #1 ranked (what would be considered d4) team in South Carolina and it was only by 8 I think. And a fluke Ironton loss . . They also beat oak hill who is still playing also . I'd say it's pretty even . .

hahaha! I see now. Coal Grove and Hiland we're both Dlll last year. Thats why both already have their rooms booked for the final 4. Bet your coaches are not looking ahead. Good luck to all. One game at a time in this ,the win or go home.

Trust me we are not at looking ahead at all,a 12-14 Fairfield Christian team has pickings for a upset, they have nothing to lose in this game, just like last year with Ross Southeastern got on a roll in the tournament and when we play them regional semis, they scared me, but we got up on them early and rolled from there
