IHS led by 6-4 jr Ashton Layne (18 ppg)& 5-11 jr Brycen Mullens' 13 ppg with solid role player offensive help from Maddix Markel 6 ppg, Kayden Edwards and Stephen Ison ... what has stood out in the opening 2 weeks for Ironton is their physicality at both ends of the floor - both holding teams down on the scoreboard with an "in your face" man to man defense to go with outstanding rebounding efforts ... Layne has averaged a double double through 4 games -entering last nights' game (18ppg/11 rpg) ... Fairland has played and won close contests on the road @ Zane Trace and @ Portsmouth West while showing that IF the 3 ball is falling they CAN blowout their opponent as they did this week vs Portsmouth where the Dragons shot over 70% from behind the arc hitting 16 three pointers to take down PHS 92-70 ... Fairland thrives on getting out in transition & finishing while living by the "see three, shoot three" principle ... fast forward to Saturday nights game vs Ironton ... the Tigers' physicality on the defensive end gave the Dragons no good looks from outside the three point line, Fairland is a team that will put up 20+ threes per game - only got up 17 making 5 ... Ironton took care of the ball, shot the ball well (52 points in the paint), rebounded well - limiting Dragon scores in transition 2 fgs/4pts ... throw in Ironton's inside presence with Ashton Layne on the offensive end - 39 points , all at the rim ... the 6-4 jr. had 6 pts in the first qtr, 10 pts in the 2nd, 16 in the 3rd ( the quarter that put Fairland in the rearview mirror IHS 26 pts to FHS's 9) ...
