... not quite the 85-81 double OT game at the Burg last year when 4 Ironmen fouled out BUT! this one didn't lack for the number of fouls called ... a great high school basketball game between 2 very good basketball teams ... Wheelersburg entered the game 6-0 while Jackson sported a 9-1 record sitting atop Pfloyd's Elite 8 rankings for the 2nd week running ... an auspicious start as Wheelersburg was called for a technical - dunking in warmups - so the game started with Jax Carroll giving the Ironmen a 2-0 lead with no time off the clock & the ball out-of-bounds at mid-court ... 6-2 sr. Stephen Jenkins picked up the Jackson opening "fg" of the game with 2pts down low in the paint , sr 5-11 Ryan Seimetz followed with 1/2 from the line , the WR1 added the JHS first trey of the game 3pts ... sr. shooting guard Jax Carroll drove to the rim & finished 2pts plus 2/2 from the line/6 pts in the quarter ... QB1 Bodhi Wolford chipped in a triple from behind the arc 3pts ... great start for the Ironmen putting up 16 pts to open the contest for the home team ... Wheelersburg struggled from the floor in the opening period as jr Xavier Miller was the only Pirate to find the bottom of the net with a pair of drive & finishes to go with a steal & finish transition bucket 2pt/6pts in the qtr the only other WHS points came from 6-2 freshman off the bench Graer Woodard 1/2 from the line ... Jackson 16 Wheelersburg 7 after 1 ... quarter 2 saw the 2 teams trading places as Jackson was the team struggling to find the basket ... Jackson's first 4 points in the period came from the charity stripe with Seimetz going 2/2, Jenkins 1/2 and Wolford 1/2 ... while the Ironmen took small steps from the line, the Burg got back to back buckets from 6-3 sr. Landon McGrew in the form of 2 pts low in the paint followed by a deep corner trey 3pts ... sr off guard Braylon Rucker converted 1/2 technical FTs and a drive from behind the arc finishing at the rim 2pts ... Jack Doerr drained a deep 3 pointer to force a timeout with 2:48 left in the period Jackson up 20-18 ... the Ironmen outscored the Pirates 8-4 to end the qtr. & going into the locker rooms - Bodhi Wolford scored in the paint with the JHS first fg in the 2nd/ Jenkins added a pair buckets at the rim 4pts and Jax Carroll shot his 2nd set of technical FTs making both ... for Wheelersburg, Rucker added 1/2 from the line and Doerr hit his 2nd triple of the quarter 3pts ... Jackson 28 Wheelersburg 22 at the half ... the Pirates picked up the on ball pressure in the 3rd forcing 4 JHS turnovers in the qtr. which kept JHS points off the board but did not result in WHS points ... Wheelersburg as well turned the ball over 4 times with the Ironmen capitalizing with 1 transition bucket ... when the dust of the up and down tempo settled it was the defenses of both teams with the win as BOTH teams put up 16 points in the period ... for Jackson - Jax Carroll continued to be an offensive factor- as he has been all season- putting up 9pts in the qtr./17 thru 3 qtrs (a transition bucket 2pts/ a drive and finish 2pts/ a trey 3pts and a make make at the free throw line) ... Bodhi Wolford added a drive to the rim 2pts to go with a triple from behind the arc 3pts/11 pts thru 3 qtrs... off the Jackson bench jr. 5-8 Dayton Kallner gave quality minutes at both ends of the floor finished the Jackson scoring with a drive & finish to close out the quarter 2pts ... Wheelersburg countered with 6 pts from Braylon Rucker 1/2 on the 4th set of technical FTs in the game ... a drive and finish 2 pts to go with a deep three right of the top of the key ( in the process Rucker knocked down his 1000th point in his outstanding hoops career at the Burg) ... Hunter Bivens had been scoreless on the night, picked up 6pts on 6/6 shooting from the FT line in the qtr ... freshman 6 man off the bench 6-2 Graer Woodard added 4pts on 2pts in the paint & an offensive board & stickback 2pts ... Jackson 44 Wheelersburg 38 after 3 ... Wheelersburg was 6-0 coming into this game for a reason - they're a well coached, very good basketball team with senior leadership that knows how to win ... Braylon Rucker the burgs' QB1 kept the Pirates in this contest throughout the 4th period putting up 11 pts on his own ball ... the scoreboard showed Jackson up 48-42 with 6:09 to play ... Rucker scoring 2pts in the paint missing the &1 end of the play ... Rucker with 2 more pts on a transition bucket ... for Jackson Woodard/Wolford with a drive & score each 4pts ... 5:07 to play the Ironmen held a slim 3 pt lead 50-47 ... WHS's Hunter Bivens went 2/2 from the line , then drove and was fouled making both the bucket & 1 in the sequence ... at 2:22 the burg still lurked in the rearview mirror trailing 58-53 ... the final 2:22 belonged to the Ironmen outscoring the burg 9-4 ... as Rucker and Bivens did the damage for Wheelersburg in the 4th , it was the Jackson TEAM in a balanced offensive/defensive effort taking care of business for Coach Morrow's Ironmen - Charlie Woodard with 6 pts in the quarter/ Jenkins 3pts on 3/4 from the line ... the major damage came from off the Ironman bench as Dayton Kallner and Cj Crabtree put the dagger in the Burg as Crabtree had 4 pts down the stretch & Kallner took care of the ballhandling vs the Pirates pressure most the 3rd/4th quarters, he had 4 big points in the closing minutes for JHS - great floor game by the junior ... Jax Carroll with 4pts in the 4th/21 pts for the game led the scoring for Jackson... Wolford chipped in a drive and score 2pts in the final 8 minutes ... big non-conference W for the Ironmen as Jackson goes to 10-1 ... Jackson 67 Wheelersburg 57 a final ...

Great recap, as always @pfloyd ...
This is my 4th time catching Burg live this season, and I was a little unsure so far, as I felt their competition just had "off" nights a couple of times. But tonight, I changed my mind. That Burg team is a top 8 team in my opinion. They were the reason that the other teams looked "off"... they are SOLID.

And huge congratulations to B.Rucker for an outstanding accomplishment of attaining his 1,000th point. He fought for every one of them tonight, and earned them.

And for this Jackson TEAM... wow. That's one of the better wins I've seen them put together in a long, long time. They brought energy, and played smart. They handle the pressure better than years past, and can rotate 8 deep without much hesitation. Any given night, they could have 7 different players in double figures... so opposing teams have to put 5 strong defenders on the floor at all times.

If they continue to play selfless basketball, and great defense, they are TOUGH.

I watched the game, those two teams are very similar. Jackson withstood burgs mini runs, and that was the difference. Both teams are pretty good basketball teams this year for our area

Excellent game , great environment. Congrats on Rucker for getting 1000 points , excellent accomplishment.

I thought Jackson controlled the game from the start , starting with the technical to start the game. I’m not sure Burg ever lead at any time. Jackson is a very physical and seasoned team. They know where each other are going to be and share the ball well. Wheelersburg is fast but Jackson handled it pretty well and Burg had trouble with Jackson’s physical defense , even when they got close to the rim nothing was easy. Always a good game with two solid programs in most sports. Will only make both teams better going forward. Excellent JV game as well.

Outstanding game. Great effort from both sides. Fans turned out from both Jackson and the visitors from Wheelersburg. This has turned into a great non-league rivalry over the years. Basketball will never be as big as football, but the passion and enthusiasm from both sides (players, coaches, and fans) makes the matchups in both fall and winter a fun and entertaining experience. Congrats to both teams on a well-played game. I look for both schools to be playing in the Roundhouse on Richland come March...
