How did SW get the mascot name "JEEPS"? Was told by a decent source how it came about but would like to hear from some others if it matches up or what they've been told. The reason I heard was very cool but would like to hear a little more if anyone can provide insight.

There is also Northeast DuBois in Indiana who shares the mascot “Jeeps”

I always thought it was from the Popeye cartoon. The bigger question is, why does the Jackson logo look like a bidet?

So, why did they have that "mouse looking thing" on roller stakes in the old South Webster gym when I played against them in high school? I thought it was the "jeep" from the Popeye cartoon back in the 40s. By the way, I usually had 20+ in that gym even though one basket was lower than the other.

A joke of course but that was my first thought when I saw they were called iron ladies

TLDR: It's a Popeye character and a tongue-in-cheek reference to their basketball team cheating.

Ive read that it was a jab from a newspaper reporter.. in response to calls of cheating from the webster boys... evidently there was no communication allowed from coach to players on the floor during play.. and it seemed to opposing teams that that rule was being circumvented somehow. A creative reporter wrote that they must be using the magical Jeep character from Popeye to pull this off... lol. And it stuck. Pretty cool actually. There's many interesting mascot stories in ohio..

This was also around the time of GP 4x4 vehicle used in WW2, aka Jeep.

The old Vernon school had Popeye and Olive Oyl murals inside the gym.
