Zane Trace (11-9) vs. Huntington (10-10) 2/25

Post by Bozo »

These two teams split in the regular season with Huntington winning last Friday by nine points.
It will probably be a close one.

I've been struggling with a prediction in this one. If ZT plays together and hard I think they win by 6. But Uhrig will have his team ready to go. I'm going ZT by 2 in O.T.

Kicking myself for not going to this game. Sounded like a real thriller. I know it was for me needing either a Zane Trace win or game to go under 120! On to 2nd round.

Wow, i finally nailed a prediction. Trusty misses the front end of a 1 and 1 for Huntington, up 3 with seconds left in regulation. Zane Trace gets a lane violation and Trusty misses again! Why Uhrig don't foul when ZT crosses half court, I don't know. Haynes buries a 3 at the buzzer to go to overtime.

Same thing against Piketon earlier this year. Cody Smith hits a 3 at the buzzer to go to overtime. Its always a hot topic but I would foul every time there is a 3 point threat on the court. The chances of the player making the first free throw, missing the second on purpose, rebounding and scoring is much harder than throwing in a 3!

Typically the player will miss the first one anyway because they are thinking about missing the second. IMO.

I totally agree with you wffan....It never fails, especially in tourney time...I don't know why...I think the percentage of last-second makes go up in post season! You have to foul and put them on the line.

Good luck ZT...another SHL and SVC matchup!

FT's killed Huntington.
You mentioned the freebies missed by Trusty toward the end of regulation (8.5 to go). Ahead 58-57 in OT with 1:28 left Cottrill missed 2 FT's for Huntington. McCullough hit a bucket with 1:20 to go to put the Pioneers up 59-58 which would turn out to be the winning bucket. ZT came up with a steal with .55 to play and Merriman hit 1-2 from the line with .44 remaining to put ZT ahead 60-58. Trusty attempted a long range 3 with .17 to play (just down 2) that was way off the mark and went out of bounds. Huntington was able to steal the end bounds pass and call timeout with 8.6 to play. Magill drove the lane and put up a shot as time was winding down but missed.

And I agree, you have to foul before ZT can shoot a three to tie at the end of regulation. NEVER let someone shoot a three to tie the game at the buzzer. Put them on the line to shoot two before they can nail a 3.

Haynes lead the Pioneers with 24. Maxwell added 14 (4 big FT's in OT), Merriman 9, Tripp 6, Chamberlin 5, McCullough 2 (game winner).

Cottrill lead the Huntsmen with 21 (scored all of Huntington points in OT), Deal added 18, Magill 11, Trusty 8.

I don't know if anyone seen it or not but after ZT won the game their PG #3 looked up at the Hunnington fans and said "Go Home". It may have been in the heat of the moment but come on, win with some class.

Maybe #32 from Huntington should have shook hands with the ZT players instead of going straight to the locker room after the game ending miss.
Game is over just move on folks.

I agree totally Kickinurz!! I am not sure if #3 did that, but I did see #32 walk off the floor. Yes, you should win with class, but you also should lose with class!! It just makes Huntington look bad when they have a player that does that. I am sure that he was upset, but shake hands and be a good sport about losing!! It was a close game and both teams played their hearts out. Someone had to lose!!
