IRONTON 59 VS Chillicothe 48 - 1/22 - FINAL

Post by caglewis »

ALMOST GAME TIME
On the radio on WIRO 1230 AM
On the net: http://www.foxsports1230.com/pages/scores.html
Click beside the TIGER face down in the middle of the page.

Varsity start time is obviously running a little late [it is a triple-header night] because the Fighting Tigers pregame show, let alone the game, isn't even on the air yet at 7:30 PM.

IT = IRONTON TIGERS ................ CC = CHILLICOTHE CAVALIERS

It's actually 7:50 PM - never mind what the Board clock says - and the Countdown pre-game show just started a couple of minutes ago. Varsity tip-off should be coming up in about 15 minutes. Geoff Linn is filling in again for Kevin Anthonee along with Jason Philyaw on the WIRO broadcast. GO IRONTON FIGHTING TIGERS

20-2 run at the right time, starting the 4th quarter trailing by 9, to go up by 9 well into the 4th, then holding that margin to the end.

Chilli has a ton of talent, but they have two major flaws...

#1 they have no basketball IQ. They don't make good decisions, know what to do under pressure, or come back from adversity.

#2 they are a very poor passing team. They don't see the floor, they try to beat everything with the dribble, and they just don't move the ball well at all.

This team has so much potential but these two major things are their downfall. As much as i hope they do i don't think these are things that can just improve overnight.

That Ironton team is physical, scrappy, and they have alot of heart. They wanted this game more than Chillicothe did.

Shocking comeback by the Tigers. Things looked for most of the first half like a repeat of prior trips to Chilli, with the Tigers being dominated by the Cavs. Down 29-6 with about 2 and a half minutes left in the first half, Ironton proceeded to outscore the Cavs 53-19 over the remainder of the game! Congrats to the team and coaching staff for showing so much heart and character. Not bad for a smallish Division 3 squad that would be competing at the Class A level in West Virginia. Still too many tough games left to rest on our laurels - at Warren, at Logan, at Portsmouth, at Wheelersburg, among others. Just play hard every night and let the chips fall.

UGHHHHHHH! Dr Jekell must have been in the locker room during halftime! Cavaliers came out the gate on fire and lead by 23,yes I said 23! Whatever was said in that Ironton locker room WORKED! I really have to give it to you guys,Ironton is the scrappiest team I have seen in a while! They never give up matter of fact I see the Tigers making a very deep run in the tourney. Much respect to you guys! Chilly how do you handle a HUGE let down like this? Cavs you had it in a bag and either didn't want itg or took it for granted. Right now you guys are big under dogs to Timpkin! Eventhough its a bump in the road to lose, keep getting better! Go Cavs!

DShanton nailed it. He left out however the Defensive lapses. IMO, the Cavs got a big lead and got lazy. I don't know how you can get lazy against a team that came back from a large lead earlier but they did.

Chilli allowed Ironton to score 6 points in the first 15 minutes of the game and 53 in the last 17 minutes of the game. I hate to say it but that was the worst second half I have EVER seen Chilli play. Big time choke job. Ironton was much less talented but wanted it much much more. Hats off to them. They never quit as the Cavs did. Malik London has got to get in the weight room. If he had the physique of just a cross country runner instead of a skeleton, he would be a beast. Right now anyone who has a brain and a bench press of 115 pounds just pushes him out of the paint. I still think he has great potential and am not discarding the fact that he is a sophomore but man does he need to get stronger. Mike Turner started on fire and just cooled off as the game went on and had to keep shooting because no one else was scoring. Ragland had an off night shooting and never seemed to make much of an impact on the game on either end. In the end, someone has to step up. Turner tried but went cold and someone else has to take up some slack. Regroup tonight and come out tomorrow with this out of the mind and they can still compete tomorrow but if they let this linger things could get ugly tomorrow. I will be there cheering throughout the game regardless though. Go Cavs and continue to work hard and get better.

On a tangent, I don't like to single out individuals but number 21 for Ironton had NO class. The whole game he was talking to the student section, looking that way and taunting every time something happenned and even after the game continued talking to the CHS student section. I wasnt close enough to here what was said but that has no place and to my knowledge he was not singled out by the students anymore than the entire team. 14 of Ironton's players played a gritty, wonderful game and won with class. One didn't.

Looks like Ironton is the real deal those early losses can be attributed to the change from football to basketball conditioning. Can't say enough about Ironton's coach he has them boys believing for sure. Way to go Ironton the SEOAL championship is yours to give away

i agree on #21.....i wont say on here what i thought of his actions. and how in the bleep does irontons coach not only not get a T, but not ejected for running out to the foul line to argue? these officials had NO control of this game. was nothing but a football game the 2nd half.

First thoughts

Turner is only offense
Malik London is weak any touch and he goes down
Ironton TREMENDOUS surge
Referees were poor Ironton coach should have been tossed and Malik also ( anyone else catch his act after a foul when he dropped / screamed obscenities after a call. Refs walked away,
If people shut down Turner where will our points come from. Supporting cast nonsupporting
WOW WOW WOW
