All right, the snow's getting out of hand...we're going to be playing basketball seven days a week to cram all these league games in...we've got reschedulings of the rescheduings, with calls for snow on Tuesday and Wednesday. But let's pretend none of that is happening and proceed with this week in SHL basketball...

The Fairfield Lions (8-6, 6-3) have the roughest schedule on the Big Board. They have a rematch against Small School rivals the Whiteoak Wildcats (7-8, 4-5). Whiteoak's been playing uneven ball all season, but the last time these two teams met the Wildcats demolished the Lions in The Battle of the Cats I. Part two should be a veritable basketball slam-boree.

Fairfield turns around and plays Eastern Brown (9-5, 7-1) on Friday. (Does anybody know why the Warriors suddenly had to forfeit their Brown County Tournament games?) Eastern is one of the teams to beat, and this Saturday we FINALLY get our Peebles/Eastern game from January 8th. Peebles (15-0, 9-0) is off to their best start since the glory days of Art Myers*, but have 4 league games to play before they win the coveted Gold Ball. This game can determine who wins the league.

Peebles plays Lynchburg-Clay (5-9, 4-3) on Tuesday. The Indians have had a tendency to look flat the day before a big game (West Union nearly upset them before the South Point game), so the Tribe better not look too far ahead.

The Mustangs have a tough game against Ripley (9-4, 6-2) on Tuesday. Ripley turns around to Riverdance with Manchester (9-7, 3-6) on Friday. If Manchester shows up, this Battle Down by the River could derail Ripley's hopes of winning the SHL.

The Dogs have had more than a week without a game, so they should be rested and ready for their two bouts with the Fayetteville Rockets (5-9, 1-6). Fayetteville plays their only game against North Adams (4-12, 3-7), who are improving and gaining confidence game by game.

West Union (1-13, 0-10) is a scrappy team that is going to be fighting hard to not go winless in the SHL down the stretch. With a program of fine coaches that believe in them, I'm sure they'll find a way.

I forgot to mention...I broke out the calculator, and collectively SHL teams are 28-34 against non-league teams. (I counted the forfeited games by Eastern and Hillsboro as if they didn't exist...when you account for those the SHL is 27-35). Eastern had a close loss to Hillsboro, but Manchester beat Ironton, Peebles beat South Point & Zane's Trace, and North Adams beat state-ranked Racine Southern.

Heard Eastern had the same trouble as Hilsboro. The brown county tournament was the only games the ineligible player played in.

I was just informed that Ripley DID play Fleming County, and lost 81-59. Correction has been made.

What are some of the SHL's schools policies regarding practicing on snow days?? You mentioned Manchester with a week off with no games. That's good to get some rest, but you gotta be able to get in the gym and get a sweat up. It can hurt having a lay off too. With more snow in the forcast for tomorrow, just curious on who will be able to get up and down the floor for practice?

I wonder is we'll get any rescheduling for Wednesday or Thursday?

It could happen...I think there won't be much played Wednesday but Thursday will depend on a lot of factors...like if there are girls' varsity games being played that night, as I know this is the last week of the SHL girls' regular season slate.

Fairfield didnt look like the team that beat Manchester twice. If it wasent for that horrible first quarter it might have been a good game.
