This is hilarious. Copley should be at least 2nd team and McMaster should be Special Mention. What a bunch of bull.

I agree with you. Maxwell should be 2nd or 3rd team and Seaman should be 2nd or 3rd team.

This is a joke. A freshman who averages just 13.7 a game gets first team but Blake Justice(24ppg, 3rd team all-state as a soph, on the AP ranked 7th team in the state in D3), Andrew Seaman(20ppg), Kirk Maxwell(20 something a game), and Evan Legg(20 something a game) get special mention? I would also like to know the thought process of putting Dan Monteroso, St. Clairsville, 6-1, fresh. 21.5ppg a game ahead of Justice(Peebles, 6-2, Jr., 24ppg). He averages less ppg, his team didnt make it any farther in the tourny than Peebles, he is a freshman to Justice being a junior, and Peebles was actually ranked in the AP's top ten. Can anyone make sense of this?

Thats absolutely true. What I dont understand is Justice was 3rd team all-state last season as a soph and his stats were nearly identical to what they are this season except that he has increased his rebounding and number of steals, last year Peebles was not even close to scratching the top ten-this season they were 7th, last year P-town was put out in the sectional-this season they barely lost in double OT in the district championship game to a regional finalist. I would think that increased press for a team and a much stronger tourny run would mean an increase in representation on the all-state team but the opposite has happened. And where is Tyler Knabb? His Eastern Brown team wins the big division of the SHL, they make the regional tourny, and he averages 21ppg and he does not even get honorable mention?

The same old Sports Politics at it's best. We always get punished here in the Southern part of the Stae when it comes time to pick All State Selections. Does anyone know or understand the due process that is used in making these selections? I really would like to know. Then maybe there might be something we can do to help promote our excellant players in our part of the state. I am not wanting to start a arguement, I just am looking for information on how how it is all done. Thanks in advance.

I totally agree we get punished. Not only by selections to All State but also officiating ways also. If you have a team from up North and team from Southern Ohio who do you think is going to get majority of the calls. This happens every year it is not fair to the kids. These kids in Southern Ohio work just as hard as any other. Sometimes I wonder if they work harder.

The all-Southeast District first-team list had Tyler Knabb of Eastern Brown on it, which would automatically mean he would be at least Special Mention all-Ohio.

That's how the state AP has ALWAYS done it, unless — by some shock — they changed it.

Because Kyle Ondera of Oak Hill and Tim Kochendoerfer of Ironton were Division III Co-Player of the Year in the district. Yet Kochendoerfer is only second-team all-state.

I'm stunned too that Blake Justice was only Special Mention.

But, in the eyes of the state AP, I guess if you're not one of the three Cs (Columbus, Cincinnati or Cleveland), then what good are you?

I havent seen Justice from Peebles but dont slam Dan Monteroso just because he is a freshman. Unbelievable ATHLETE!!! I believe he was at worst special mention in football all ohio and wait till he makes state in track. He had 10 plus dunks this year and was long jumping almost 21ft as an 8th grader. Our team(and many others) sat and watched him in an aau tourney in Columbus last spring and he put on a clinic!!!

With over 2600 boys basketball players in each DIV in OHIO its a honor to be on ALL-OHIO list!! Wheather its 1st or Honorable Mention, coz ill bet 95% of players would be happy to change places with these kids! Congrats to all who made it and good luck in future!

Im not trying to "slam" anyone, im sure he is a very good player but I dont see how you put a freshman with lower stats(21.5ppg), similiar tourny success, and was on a team that was not even ranked by the AP above Justice(Jr., 24ppg,3rd team last season as a soph.- and if anything he has improved his stats from last season).

I think it's possible for a 9th grader with lower stats to be a better athlete/player than a 10th,11th, or 12th grader. I really don't see how what grade your in matters, when your looking at the whole picture (stats, and talent).JMO

Stats are what these come down to and Justice's were higher. Really Monteroso is not the one I have an issue with, mainly its the freshman on the first team that averages 13 something a game. How is 13 a game on a team that got put out in the same round as Peebles and were not ranked in the AP any more deserving than 24ppg on a team that was? I could name 7 or 8 kids from the SE that I would have on my first team in his place(Justice, Seaman, Legg, Kochendoerfer, Copley, Knabb, Maxwell, Horne, etc.-all at or over 20ppg, many on teams that made it further in the tourny that Villa Angela-St. Joseph)
