D3 Waverly Sectional

Post by danicalifornia »

Teams
Adena 10-9
Eastern Brown 6-11
Huntington 2-15
Lynchburg Clay 12-6
Northwest 5-10
Piketon 11-6
Portsmouth 15-5
Portsmouth West 9-8
Southeastern 11-7
Valley 13-4
West Union 11-9
Westfall 6-11
Wheelersburg 7-11
Zane Trace 13-5

This is one sectional that could be a really fun room to be in once the coaches see where they are seeded.

Portsmouth is now 11-4 after their win Saturday night at Gallia Academy........the Trojans will play A-South Point,H-Chesapeake,H-Logan,H-Fairland, and H-Jackson until the sectional draw. The opportunity is there to go 16-4 at the draw. PHS ends the regular season at Warren and at Rock Hill in games that won't count for seeding. There is still the chance for the Trojans to get that #1 seed.

I believe Valley is now 12-3, next game up is a huge one @ 16-0 Unioto.

Portsmouth is now 13-5 after a 61-49 win against previously undefeated Chesapeake, and then a 60-56 loss to Logan the following night. The Trojans have Jackson and Fairland at home this week. If PHS can win these games, a 15-5 record going into the draw should get them no worse than a #3 seed. As far as quality wins, Portsmouth has wins against Chesapeake, Ironton, at Fairland, at Logan, and a sweep of Coal Grove. I don't look for the Trojans to get the #1 or #2 seed, but absolutely should be no worse than #3. The OVC is deeper than the SOC, the SVC, and the SEOAL, and I didn't think that way going into the season. Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Fairland, Coal Grove, and Ironton are all good teams in the OVC, while in the SEOAL Warren is typical Warren and Logan has its best team in several years. The SVC is a one horse race, with Unioto clearly the best of that conference, Minford is closing in on the golden ball for the SOC II title, Warren is perfect so far for the SEOAL championship, but the OVC is still very much undecided, even with Chesapeake at 16-1.

I look for Valley and Zane Trace to probably get the top 2 seeds, based on fewer losses, because that's what it always seems to come down to.

I think all of the records are up to date.

But, I believe that the SVC is much improved from last season, even if Unioto is clearly at the top. Adena seems closer to figuring things out with the addition of Hall to the lineup, while Piketon, Southeastern, and Zane Trace all have quality wins and each has one scorer who can take over a game, to go with a stud on the interior.

Portsmouth has played the best schedule and IMO, is the best team in this Sectional, but we'll see how the coaches vote.

I guarantee that nobody wants to play Portsmouth in this Sectional, that's for sure. They have had a tough schedule, but to face Chesapeake and then Logan on back-to-back days? I am sure the Panther fans would have rather it been Logan then Chesapeake. :-) The Trojans were definitely ready to play against the Peake.

Come tournament time, all teams will have plenty of rest between games, and Portsmouth will be very difficult to beat, imo.

My predictions for this Sectional.

1. Valley 12-3
2. Portsmouth 13-5
3. Zane Trace 12-4
4. Southeastern 11-6
5. Lynchburg Clay 10-6
6. Portsmouth West 9-6
7. Piketon 10-6
8. West Union 9-9
9. Adena 9-8
10. Wheelersburg 7-10
11. Eastern Brown 5-11
12. Westfall 6-9
13. Northwest 4-10
14. Huntington 2-14

Valley and Portsmouth may flip flop up top. 4-7 seeds could have a lot of movement depending on how the season ends. Of all the Southeast Sectionals, I definitely think this will be the most interesting.

Cameron34, the draw is next Sunday, who will they play before them. I could be wrong but I thought everyone had to play a full schedule of 22 games. I could care less but I thought that was the rule. I heard of some teams last year having to make up games. I could care less just curious. Dumb rule if you ask me.

You do not have to play all 22 games.

Piketon is 10-6 with games left before the draw, @Huntington, @Valley, @ Westfall and @Paint Valley. @Adena and home Peebles after the draw. Somehow, Piketon was given a 6 home and 1 away first half of the league games, and now in the 2nd half 1 home and 6 away! We are road warriors!

Wins Eastern Pike, Waverly, (Huntington, Westfall, Adena, Paint Valley, Southeastern, SVC) Manchester, West Union and Vinton County.

Losses Circleville, Unioto x2, Zane Trace x2, Southeastern.

I don't think it's a rule that you have to play 22 games, but rather you are allowed to play 22 games. We played 22 the last couple of years but this years schedule only has 20 games.

Before they draw we have Minford, Adena, and South Webster.

My current seeding:

1- Portsmouth (15-5)
2- Zane Trace (13-4)
3- Valley (13-4)
4- Piketon (11-6)
5- Lynchburg Clay (11-6)
6- Southeastern (11-7)
7- West (9-7)
8- Adena (9-9)
9- West Union (10-9)
10- Wheelersburg (7-11)
11- Westfall (6-11)
12- Eastern Brown (6-11)
13- Northwest (5-10)
14- Huntington (2-15)

Adena/West would flip with an Adena win tonight. ZT/LC is a big matchup tonight.
Piketon @ Valley on Tuesday should be fun.

I think they actually vote for the seeds on Thursday or Friday.
Zane Trace at Circleville could be an interesting game on Wednesday night.
