How Portsmouth ranks in the state (all schools....approximately 800)

Appearances: 15.......4th
State Tournament Games Played: 27........Tied for 3rd
State Tournament Games Won: 16.......Tied for 4th (overall record 16-11)
State Championship Games Played: 8.......Tied for 5th
Final 4 Wins: 12.....Tied for 5th
State Titles: 4.......Tied for 7th
Decades Making The State Tournament: 8.......Tied for 2nd

Not all of Portsmouth's state tournament appearances were in the Final 4 format. As was mentioned above, the state tournament in the early days was formatted in an Elite 8 or Sweet 16. The 1925, 1926, 1939, and 1941 state tournament appearances by Portsmouth were not Final 4 appearances but still considered state appearances nonetheless. In each of those years, the Trojans were eliminated before Final 4 play began.

Thanks for your work.....I know how hard it is to compile info like this having done many years of research on Portsmouth's history.

Currently, the SE district is 0-6 in Final 4 games since Portsmouth's win in the 2012 D3 state semifinal vs. Ottawa-Glandorf. Warren in 2013, Ironton in 2013, Lynchburg Clay in 2016, Fairland in 2017, Sheridan in 2019, and New Boston in 2021 have all lost in the state semifinal games.

you notice how none of the 8 active posters on this site never want anything to do with trojan history but always jump in to talk about theirs lmao....im assuming thats why the Portsmouth posters moved to the other site this one is falling quick

E High: Thanks for the compliment about Portsmouth's basketball history. It has been frustrating to see our program struggling, but I honestly think in 2 years we could be pretty good with a load of guards.

PirateFan(69): I think the other site that truetrojan1961 is referencing is www.yappi.com., which is another site that focuses on high school sports but is more statewide based. I enjoy that site and am a registered member. The site for Portsmouth's history is www.trojanhoops.org., which I maintain the history and updates on that history. Many thanks to Matt Payton for keeping the site up and running.

Like ironton football, portsmouth hangs on to yesteryear. Who the freak cares what you did once upon a time? No one but your arrogant self and fan base, that's who. You don't get extra credit for what you did in the past. You don't garner respect because your elders did x, y, and z. Until you prove otherwise you are nothing but a has-been, like ironton football, right Kantucky?

FIDO: I'll tell you who cares......those who played for the Trojans who are still alive, the coaches who coached the teams that are still alive, and the fans who followed the teams that are still alive. There are almost 150,000 views on www.trojanhoops.org., so there's still a lot of interest in what goes on concerning Trojan basketball, past and present.

Racine knows who he is! That gym should have his name on it. He took boys out of tomato fields and got them winning games like never before and never since. He made them cut their dang hair and he wouldn’t let them lift them dang waits because he knew they would throw off your shot. In 1980 and 1982 he got guys like cousin H and Big red to almost win the whole dang thing.
