Who is the best coach in southern Ohio?

A couple people come to my mind:

Nathan Speed at Fairland won after losing everyone of his starters, and won the OVC in a very tight race.

Ryan Davis at Chesapeake has restored the Peake to a respectable program after having a few years of rebuilding.

In fact most of the OVC coaches could probably be mentioned in this catagory.

It seems like Portsmouth's Eugene Collins rarely gets mentioned when it comes to this topic........he has a career record of 163-80, having won 4 conference titles, 5 sectional titles, 3 district titles, 1 regional runnerup, back to back Final 4's in 2011 and 2012, a state runnerup in 2012, and previously was named the SEOAL, OVC, and D3 State Coach of the Year. He is the 3rd winningest coach in Portsmouth history, with only 6 more wins needed to move into 2nd place. He also has a 5-0 record in regional play vs. Ryan Davis (2-0), Mark Lafon (2-0), and Tom Barrick (1-0).

What's interesting about the OVC is that Davis (2010), Speed (2017), Lafon (2013), and Collins (2011, 2012) all have made state appearances, while Kevin Vanderhoof of Coal Grove has had 2 straight regional appearances. The OVC does indeed have some very good coaches.

Coach Arey always finds a way to see his talent or lack of it and mold them into a team by tournament time.

Agree Vanderhoof has done an outstanding job at CG. Barrick has had a fine career but he is now in KY. Persin gets the most out of his players every year and has a ton of wins.

I second this. Guy always has fundamental teams.

I agree with Vanderhoof and Collins (can't believe I forgot about those gentlemen. Collins brought PHS back to relevance, even though they have gone through tough years, while Vanderhoof continues to put Coal Grove basketball on the map.

Vanderhoof has done a very good job the last few years. Going forward he will have his toughest tests to date, though. He doesn't have the talent this season nor in the foreseeable future that he's had the last few years.

I think it is one of each, but he routinely has Warren in the district finals and you always know that his teams are going to be prepared and difficult to beat. He’s a great coach, one of many throughout the area, but he definitely is a standout.

Maddox has benefited a lot from a historic 10 year run of talent. He’s a good coach no doubt but he should have more than one district title with the teams he’s had. This year will be very telling since we aren’t as talented as other years.

Trojandave:

Thanks for listing coach Collins history and what he brings to the table ,I appreciate post like this and Danicalifornia .

All coaches listed have done a great job I'm sure but anyone can throw a name without giving at list a little info on what they have accomplished .

I think Adam cox has only been coaching two years so I think it's a bit early to throw his name out there lol.
Unless of course he coached some where before coming to New Boston that you are pointing out
