Chillicothe Comes into this one looking very impressive but as we all know Moeller is a different kind of animal. Maughmer, Noel, beard will have to play lights out to keep this one close.
Thoughts on this one?

Moeller just had their streak of 50+ straight wins against Ohio teams snapped last week by SVSM in a very tight game. For those who don't know, SVSM just lost to Sierra Canyon by 3pts in Columbus Ohio this past weekend. Sierra Canyon loaded with Bronny James (LeBron's son), Zaire Wade (Dwayne's son), Brandon Boston and Zaire Williams (who didn't play against SMSV). Sierra ranked in top 10 in the country (I believe). So this gives you a great idea of the type of team Moeller is.
With that being said.... this game was not scheduled to get a moral victory (no such thing). This game was scheduled so that we can go and compete against a state powerhouse team and as a measuring stick to see where we are at this point in the season. I fully expect our kids to give it all they have and hope they gym is packed as they get set to take on one of the best programs in the State of Ohio this Friday! What an experience it will be for those young men. Gonna take a TOTAL team effort in this one for sure!

Play hard Cavaliers and you never know what could happen. I know in Portsmouth's history we have been in similar situations, yet the Trojans came out on top when it looked like we were overmatched. I admire Coach Huffer for scheduling this game. It has to help CHS as the season progresses.

Just play hard. Athens took the #4 team in the Nation to the wire. Basketball is a sport full of upsets

Good luck Chilly. Have had some great teams and great tradition. Unfortunately D-1 again. Tremendous measuring stick.

If Chilli wants a real test they need to head on over to Racine and play the Tomatoes at their place. I'm not sure that even that desert team, Sierra or what have you, could win in Racine right now with the refs them people is a hiring.

In 1987, #24 in the USA Dayton Dunbar came to Portsmouth to play a Trojan team that was a big underdog (PHS did eventually go 22-3 that year). Dunbar was coached by Mike Haley, Portsmouth graduate who won 4 state titles with Dayton Roth and Dunbar. In this game, Portsmouth held a 62-61 lead with Dunbar's Kirk Taylor at the line with 2 FT's with 1 second left on the clock. He missed the first FT, the Trojans called timeout, and then after the timeout, he missed the second FT, with PHS's Todd Kinskey grabbing the rebound. The clock ran out, and Portsmouth had pulled off an improbably upset. Kirk Taylor went on to start at Michigan, while PG Mark Baker started for Ohio State. That Dunbar team was loaded.
Dunbar went on the post a 24-4 record, and ended up winning the last Class AAA state title that year. (In 1988, the OHSAA went to 4 divisions, with PHS winning the very first D2 state title). Portsmouth went on to lose to New Lebanon Dixie in the 1987 Class AA Dayton regional semifinal.
Point being in this flashback, Chillicothe could do the same thing Friday night. It's at Hatton Gymnasium, the place should be packed, and the Cavaliers are a really good basketball team. The ingredients are there for CHS to come out with a win. It could happen.

I'm most thankful for this game just so we can read once again, seems like time after time, someone's post about the Portsmouth victory over Dayton Dunbar from over 30 years ago. Now all we need is for someone from Racine Southern to tell us about them almost winning the state nearly 40 years ago.

Nobody cares about Southern or Trimble or Howie. Go home
