Division III Ohio University Regional 2020

Post by bsee12345 »

Regional Pairings

Central 2 Winner vs Athens 1 Winner
East Winner vs Athens 2 Winner

Southeast District will be fun to watch with the change to in tournament set up. Probably at least 8 teams that could end up in the Regional Tournament.

Central District is very strong this year. I think the Central District bracket to Ohio Universiity will include Harvest Prep. How teams position themselves with be interesting because the Central 1 Winner goes to Bowling Green have to go thru Ottawa Glandorf or Archbold. Top Teams in Central are Harvest Prep, Ready, Worthington Christian, North Union (Currently unbeaten). Marion Pleasant and Johnstown can get a on roll and pull and upset. My guess is it will be either Harvest Prep or Worthington Christian in Athens for the Regional.

Central District will probably be Worthington Christian, and WC is really tough this year. Very hard schedule they’ll have played come tournament time.

What will the Super Sectional look like this year? Doesn't #1 get to pick which sectional they go to or do the top teams pick their entire route? I assume with 27 teams that the top 5 get first round byes?

I’m not sure on the byes and how they will matchup, although I think you can search 27 team single elimination tournament and a bracket will come up

However, they are still seeding it similar to how the NCAA does, so you’ll get your seed and placed on the board. It still isn’t a pick your own path, but I think that will be coming sooner rather than later.

I know that my Portsmouth Trojans are lightly regarded on SEOPS this year, and I understand why. Don't be surprised if we pull off an improbable upset in the postseason. We're one of the few teams in the SE district that plays as many as 5 sophomores, and we are getting better as the season goes. Our pressing defense, combined with quickness and athleticism, could give someone fits. We are traditionally a tough out come tourney time.

Looks like there will be 5 Byes and then the other 22 teams will play a 1st round matchup. There will be some dandy 1st and 2nd Round Games!

After the way Portsmouth played at Ironton in a 62-61 loss on 1/10, I feel even more confident that the Trojans will be very pesky in the tourney. 3 of PHS's losses have come in OT at South Point, by 3 at the KSA in Florida, and by 1 at Ironton. 3 close road losses; could be 8-4 instead of 5-7.

There's a lot of intrigue with this new setup as to how all the teams will be seeded #1--#27. Will the old standard politics still play a part in this or will it not have as much of an effect as in past years? How much will conference affiliation play a part in seeding?

Will the seeding be determined by records alone or will some teams get the benefit of a doubt? I know Portsmouth has been a beneficiary of some favorable seeds in recent years. It will be interesting to see if the #1 seed will not be determined until the final week of the regular season.

It’ll be much tougher for the coordination to affect and help out each coach in on it....might be able to vote with a group as to maybe “avoid” a team but it’ll be difficult to appease each member of the coalition.

So, does the SE #1 seed or #2 seed line up to play the Central district?

Harvest Prep vs Zane Trace
Fairland vs West Lafayette Ridgewood

Both games look as if they could be very good games. One thing for sure is who comes out of this region will be tourney tested. The OU Regional winner will play the Bowling Green Regional winner.

Hiland beat them by 9 or 10. Granted Hiland seems to always be the best team at the Convo any division
