Can anyone give the OVC Standings per year since the Conference has expanded to8 teams????

Post by Boo-Duh »

Just wondering.....

Before you decide to repeat a story, ask yourself three questions: 1) Is it true (Eph. 4:25)? 2) Is it kind (Eph. 4:32)? 3) Is it necessary (Eph. 4:29)? If not, please don't repeat it (Lev. 19:16; Prov. 11:13; 16:28; 17:9; 18:8; 1 Tim. 5:13).

I don't have the year by year standings for the entire OVC since Portsmouth joined in 2015, but here is the Trojans' record since then with final placing:

2014-2015: 12-2...........1st
2015-2016: 10-4...........3rd (per TriStateYouthSports)
2016-2017: 9-5............3rd
2017-2018: 8-6............4th
2018-2019: 3-11...........7th
2019-2020: 6-8............5th

Totals since 2015: 48-36, 1 OVC title in 2015

Fairland has won the OVC 5 straight years, with Portsmouth being the last school before Fairland to win the OVC. Portsmouth was also the last school to sweep Fairland in head to head play, that being in 2015, 71-58 and 68-60. Since then, Fairland has won 10 in a row against the Trojans.

Head to head records by Portsmouth vs. Each OVC school since 2015:

Fairland...............2-10
Ironton................6-6
Coal Grove...........7-5
Rock Hill..............12-0
South Point...........7-5
Gallia Academy......6-6
Chesapeake..........8-4

Why are some OVC records showing 11,12,13, and 14 games played in an 8 team league. Thought league mandated ALL OVC games must be played. Just curious 👍

Portsmouth has played a complete 14 OVC game schedule each season since the school joined in 2015. I have the game by game records for the Trojans for each year. I edited my post above to show PHS's 3rd place finish in 2015-2016. Thanks to TriStateYouthSports for those 2015-2016 standings.

Gator B Long: A complete OVC schedule is supposed to include 14 games, with a double round robin vs. each school.

I updated my original post. Added additional standings that I found in the seops archive. I have standings for 13-14 but they aren't the final standings (I do know that South Point won that year). I can't locate 12-13.

Thanks for the updated info TriStateYouthSports. I knew Portsmouth finished first in the 2015 season, but I didn't realize they tied Chesapeake for the title. PHS and CHS split their two games that season, with Portsmouth winning 61-49 at home, with Chesapeake winning 68-53 at their gym. Portsmouth's other conference loss was at Ironton 57-46.

Fairland is 68-2 in their 5 year reign as OVC champions. Amazing record. Based on your info during that 5 year period, here are the conference records for each team:

Fairland................68-2
Gallia Academy.......40-30
Ironton.................39-31
Portsmouth............36-34
Chesapeake...........33-37
South Point............33-37
Coal Grove............30-40
Rock Hill................1-69

Feel bad for Rock Hill. It's been a tough 5 years for the Redmen. Hopefully the future will bring better days. With Fairland bringing virtually everyone back next season, they will be the prohibitive favorite for a 6th straight title. I also look for Portsmouth to improve 2 more spots to 3rd or maybe even 2nd. We only lose 1 player in the rotation, albeit Matthew Fraulini, our leading scorer.
