I’m sure he was planning on actually being retired, before this job opened up.
I believe it goes:

Oak Hill; 5 seasons
Wilmington; 2 seasons
Chesapeake; 21 seasons
Oak Hill; 14 seasons

PDT says Heath McKinniss is taking over as Oak Hill head coach. Been an assistant on Norm's staff last 7 years.

Any official word yet on West, Northwest, or Green?*

Rob Ervin from what I've heard. Long Time Reader First time Poster.

IMO, lazy hire. Bring in someone not from or associated with Wellston. At least hire someone that will be in the school every day(teacher). Allow that person to build the program up from the bottom. The intermediate age groups need an organized youth league that's not dysfunctional with everyone only worrying about how many points their child is scoring.

Rob Ervin is a great person. I do not want to offend him or anyone else on this forum about him. He is a man of great character and I believe will be a great leader for the Rocket program. My dig is at the administration where we recently hired someone not associated with Wellston for our Football program and we saw how that worked for us this year.

I don’t think the Ervin hire is finalized yet. Once his name came up there was some backlash from players and parents who supported the JV coach Fouty to take over. He is a teacher their at the school and would be there to rebuild the program from the ground up.

Great players and more importantly parents getting involved. That's the key to building a winning program...

That doesn’t mean a great players parent should get the job just cause of his son.

Thank you, I do not know Rob Ervin at all. I did see the Ervin boy play 2 or 3 games this past season, he looked pretty talented as a Freshman.

Rob Ervin is absolutely one of the best people I know. 100% class act and tremendous role model. I have no idea if he’s the best that applied for the job or not but I have no doubt he’ll give 100% and represent Wellston with class and dignity. If hired it would be ridiculous to not support him if in the Wellston basketball program.

He is a nice guy for sure not saying anything bad about him. But he is not the best guy to apply for the position. Many players and parents support someone they to feel is a tremendous role model and have won recently with while he was the coach of their kids. Seems like it’s typical small town stuff, politics and not what’s best for the players or program.

I’m not great savvy on the coaching within the Wellston program. Winning in 7th through JV (if that’s the case and I’m not sure it is) with a coach doesn’t mean he’s the right guy for the varsity job. I’m actually now wondering what group and coaches have won a good deal in the program? I’m familiar with the kids that finished their sophomore season....were the JV/Freshman teams 15-7 and 12-5 type teams? The Wellston 8th grade is good, not sure of 7th. I guess I’m asking what coach and group you are speaking of?

And then they boy graduates and Dad leaves for family reasons. It’s a bad trend in HS sports today. If you want the little league mentality, then let a couple parents coach one game , then 2 more the next game and so on , until the seasons over. Wow
