Just a thought from afar, will Norm Persin's presence in Lucasville make Valley an instant contender?

He will obviously make them better. He didn't go to Valley for the league, he went there because they are D4. They are still very young and will have huge problems defending the paint and rebounding.

I'm wondering why Northwest is being ranked so low? Is it just because of the youth, or am I missing something? I think Scarberry came back for a reason, as did Persin at Valley.

If the past is prologue, Northwest's destiny is usually one of being the cellar dweller, thus little or no expectation of success. Maybe this is the year for something better for the students and community. They deserve a taste of winning.

I think most people would put them last. They'll have a chance to better than that though. Boys are just going to have to play their roles. Going to have some youngsters see some varsity action. They have been working hard and even putting in extra time. I think they will be better than what alot of people think.

Who does oak hill have returning from last seasons varsity roster?
They return a couple rotation players in Hines and Howell. They graduated all 5 starters and 2 subs that got a lot of the playing time off the bench.

Hines as in Landon Hines? Name sounds familiar what does he bring to the court as long as Howell?

Now that all teams are down with football, time to transition to the hardwood. What’s everyone thinking?

I think it’s Waverly and Burg fighting for the championship. But see Valley and Minford putting up a fight.

Waverly
Wheelersburg
Minford

Those are the three best teams

Oak Hill will drop way off
Do not see Valley, Webster, or Eastern having the interior games to compete with those 3

Waverly, Burg will probably be tops in the league. Minford will win some games. I look for Valley to be a completely different team than last year. Not sure about West, Webster, Eastern and Northwest. Hoping for some good basketball all around though. Are the top football players playing basketball as well this year? Anyone deciding not to play basketball?

I think Valley may surprise some people. They had a lot of young guys last year who could play, especially at the guard position. They just lacked experience. Now with Norm there, you know he will put them in a position to be compete every night. I don’t think they will be winning a league title this year by any means, but they will be a tough game for anyone in the league.

As far as football players playing basketball, I know Waverly has a few. Will Futhey, Zeke Brown, Mark Stulley and Haydn Shanks all are playing I believe. Would love to see Wolf come out and play again, he would definitely contribute with his size and athleticism. But can’t blame the kid if he doesn’t after that nasty injury his Sophomore year.
