I just wanted to note that Paint Valley's Mick Shoemaker received a D1 scholarship from the University of Cincinnati and played there from 1976-1979. Also, Dylan Swingle is the SVC and Ross County's all-time leading scorer. He's currently playing at Bowling Green. Can't forget those two.
The Big Cat was an absolute beast. A great kid off the court as well. I do believe however, had he been 6'2" or so. Nobody would have ever known his name.
Fair point, but you could say that about a lot of athletes. If Tom Brady was 5-8 we wouldn't know his name either. And there have been quite a few players over 6-8 in Ross County history but Swingle is the all-time leading scorer. I think that says a lot.
True. But for example. Had Beau Justice been 6'6" He wouldn't have ended up at Duquesne or Bowling Green. He would have chosen between Duke or Kentucky.

Where would Shaq have played if he was 6’6? You never know how anyone including swingle would have developed if they were a different size.

You could easily say this about any player. Dylan swingle is an all time player regardless of height.

Would Swingle have scored darn near 1,800 points had he played at Unioto? We both know the answer to that. The kid was a fn beast. Ain't taking nothing from him.

Again that’s kind of a silly comparison. It’s like saying would Gullion have thrown for 3,000 yards if he played for Adena. The answer is no but we know he’s capable. Just like swingle would’ve been capable of scoring 1800 at Unioto

Haha. You might be right. Beau was great, we played them every year. However, size does matter whether it's fair or not. You can't hold it against a kid just because he's 6-10. Now if you'd said pound for pound that would change the equation.

Rick Scarberry needs mentioned as well. Prolific high school scorer and a successful college career at Ohio. A couple MAC titles and 2 NCAA tournament births. Had a pro try out too I believe.

Ty Barnes from Ironton should certainly be in the starting 5 all time southern Ohio.

No Gary Harrison from Gallia Academy? Still Gallia County’s all-time leading scorer. College All-American at Rio Grande.

Any all time starting 5 should include a player from the Portsmouth Trojans.......the SE district's all time winningest program, regular season and tournament. Larry Hisle (1965) was a first team All-American, recruited by John Wooden at UCLA, but Larry chose Major League baseball and had a fine career. Played mostly with Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Minnesota. To this day, many PHS fans consider him the greatest Trojan to ever wear the Red and Blue.
