Wheelersburg Pirates 2020-21 Season

Post by Mad-Dogg »

Let’s get some thoughts on this years team. With the dumpster fire we call 2020 and the football season only being six games will the basketball season get the full amount of games or will it be conference only

They will be very good. Senior laden, good mixture of height/guards, some depth... Them and Waverly will have 2 very fun games against one another.

Should be a Regional contender. As far as SOC II goes, like bbjunky said, Burg/Waverly games will decide conference. It's those two, and everyone else. Minford and Valley look like the next tier.*

Burg's starting 5 is back in McCorkle, Miller, Truitt, Sanderlin and Adkins. Truitt needs to take more than 10-12 shots a game. Pure shooter when he gets hot. I think McCorkle will be a lot stronger on the boards this year. He will be tough to stop if he gets the ball in the paint. Miller is a driver and a heck of a defender. Sanderlin was just a Freshman but played really well in his role. Look for him to be stronger. Adkins never really showed me much and was curious on why he got so much playing time. Maybe being a Senior he will shine.

Who knows if all of these guys will even play this year also. The way Burg basketball has been the last 15 years, a lot of good players, mostly Seniors have been sitting in the cheer block during Burg games. Always perplexing to me.

Later half of the year Swords started over Sanderlin

I heard that Adkins is not playing to concentrate on academics and football at the next level. Miller, Truitt, McCorkle, Swords and Sanderlin.

From what I'm seeing on Ashland's roster from last season, Gregg did not play basketball.

Not sure if it's entirely accurate, but it normally has been in the past.

I could be wrong but I could have sworn I seen somewhere that it said he played basketball also.

This will be the first time Coach Ater will have an actual preseason with the whole team since he has been at Burg.

I think the only one out of the potential starters playing soccer is McCorkle. The other three played football and Truitt didn't play a Fall sport.

Has anyone seen the schedule yet? I’ve tried finding it but no luck. I seen a few games listed on max preps and arbiter. Wonder if fans will be allowed. Seen some posts on twitter that 300 or 15% capacity will be allowed

Dewine just put out no fans to start. That’s what he said today. And they will reevaluate. Unless I heard it wrong

It’s going to be parents/guardians only, based on what OHSAA has just said.
