Wheelersburg at Waverly 01-05-21

Post by smurray »

Waverly coming off a big win on the road at Fairfield Union Saturday after missing 3 weeks of action, the last game being against Miami Trace on December 11.

Will the fact Wheelersburg has played more games be an advantage for them or do most people think that doesn’t matter?
The Tigers looked pretty good at Fairfield Union and I’m sure the Pirates are playing much better ball then at the beginning of the season.

Games split last year with the traveling teams winning.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on this one?

I'm a Trey Robertson fan, watched his game develop during the summer ball he played in AAU ... he is one of those rare "animals" - he is the total package - handles the ball, hits the outside 3 ball, can hit the pull up jumper, gets to the rim off the dribble, what I saw this summer was his ability to see the floor and find open shooters - he was driving the lane and dishing, he was delivering dimes from the perimeter into the block ... he's already got all of the components for the next level and he's around this year and NEXT - he's pretty special imo ... so with that said I'm going with the Tigers at home - I know the road teams won last year BUT I'm thinking that IF the Burg puts the clamps on Robertson - he has matured to the point where he doesn't force the issue , he WILL find the open man - the difference in the game to me is Trey will get everyone involved - might have a dozen assists tomorrow night ... will be interesting to see the napkin stats on this one ! a good game no matter who wins though ...

I can see either team winning. I’ll side with the team that has Robertson.

For real
Coached by the GOAT at Peake
Think he told me he was an assistant under Thad Matta at OSU.
Burg doesn’t hire bad coaches.

Interesting because Waverly will have the best player and IMO the two best athletes on the court in Futhey and Brown. That's not taking away from Burg, who has solid athletes and playmakers. Looking for Futhey and Brown to go for a combined 25 pts to make the difference. Waverly wins 65-60.

Agreed. I think people take Ater for granted b/c he had Loop at Webster and Holden at Burg, but I think he's one of the better coaches in the area. His last year at Webster, he took a team with average talent to Regional Finals and was 4 points away from going to State. Still one of best coaching performances I've ever seen by Ater and his staff that tourney run.

As for tonight's game, I'm going to go with Waverly at home by a score of 48-43 in a defensive slugfest. Should be fun watching 2 of best teams in area going at it.*

You have to think Burg playing more games up to this point has to give them a slight edge.

I could definitely see it going either way. Great matchup. Whoever wins I think wins by less than 5

$8.00 is a steal if you consider having several people watching it on your 70” TV.
It costs $5.00 per person to get in plus gas and wear and tear on your vehicle getting there - and eating out.
NO BIGGER GAME THIS SEASON UP TO THIS POINT!

Some schools charge, but not very many. I understand it sucks for the away schools having to pay to watch their teams play one game. But the package deal for the season that covers both boys and girls games isn’t bad if you were wanting to watch lots of games of your school. But I totally understand why some schools do choose to charge for the stream. Think of how much money school districts are losing because of restrictions on attendance due to COVID. So much money, it’s ridiculous. Think about the Burg/Waverly game in football for this year and how much money would have been made that night if it were a normal year. I’m just guessing, but I’d say at least $20,000 would have been made at the gate alone. Not counting parking/concession/split the pot. So I personally have no problem with schools trying to find other ways to make up for the major loss of income this year for the athletic departments.

Actually I watch the games on my phone. By myself. On YouTube.

Which Waverly has been streaming for free on YouTube so don’t start that nonsense about it being a steal when theyve been doing it for free

I guess the other games Waverly streamed this year weren’t marquis enough to charge in person attendance costs for.

I don’t have a 70 inch tv either.

I’d pay $20 to sit in on a game this season.
