Valley at Waverly Friday 02/12/21

Post by smurray »

Tigers a man down tonight pulled away from the Mohawks in the 4th to win 67-47.
Robertson with 27 and Wheeler stepping up with 21. Wolf with 8 and stepping up his defense. Eli Crabtree with some big minutes as the 6th man and played some very good defense. Brown with great defense on the big man and chipping in 5. Stulley doing what Stulley does on defense and hitting a big 3 in the 3rd and a drive and bucket in the 4th for 5 points.

Playing a man down leaves the Tigers with a 6 man rotation along with a couple starters nursing some nagging injuries.
The Indians come to the jungle Friday night, a young but very talented squad and very well coached.

Tigers need to get some rest and try to heal up a bit the next couple days before the Indians invade the downtown arena.

You beat Burg with 7 then you can beat Valley with 6. You don’t have a plethora or athletic 6’3+ guys, but you still have a lot.

Valley might keep it close but this one feels like a blowout.

Well hopefully all is well with Futhey. Smurray mentioning players with nagging injuries so doesn’t sound like he’s injured. He’s not quarantined or smurray would’ve said that.

Futhey plays the game hard. A 6’5 athlete that busts his tail up and down the court like few other bigs. He works very well with Trey and has since about 5th grade. Hopefully he’s back soon but how smurray is posting it doesn’t sound good to me. I know he’s a big D1 receiver recruit...maybe he’s out of state on a recruiting trip. That’s my hope.

He should be back on the court next Tuesday for the Adena game.

I'd love to see a Valley upset here, either friday or saturday. But will be hard to do. Waverly is a good ball team. Valley is young, but talented. Valley cant have empty possessions against Waverly. If valley can control the pace and keep it low scoring, they might have a chance. If waverly turns it into a track meet, it could get ugly. Hope everyone stays healthy. It has to be weird for the players to play the same team back to back nights.

Correct, he took it off to eat instead of just pulling it away from his face while he ate.

oh, ok, I was gonna say, that's some pretty harsh punishment. In all seriousness, hope whatever happened is a learning opportunity for him. Don't want these kinds of things to turn recruiters away.

Well, hopefully in this world of unforgiving people who prey on the mistakes of idiot teenagers and hope nothing more than to see them fail, him and the team can move past it and finish strong.

Agreed, sounds like the team handled it and move on. Wish him the best going forward, but glad Valley doesn't have to play him. Haha

Some schools/coaches wouldn't have handed down that harsh a punishment but Travis has always been about way more than basketball. He tries to help mold teenagers into fine young men and when they screw up he doesn't let it slide, rather uses it as a great teaching moment. Discipline is handed down but help is also offered. I haven't said anything on here about it because I didn't know what had been said and made public at this point. Obviously something was said on the radio and we'll leave it at that. This will be a HUGE learning experience for the young man, and not just him but for EVERY student athlete at Waverly.
I believe he will learn from it and be better because of it. We have all made stupid decisions in life, still do - we learn from them and hopefully become better people because of those mistakes...
