Waverly pretty much controlled the game from the tip, never felt like they were in real jeopardy of losing this one. Hillsboro has a nice squad and will be a tough out in the tourney. I thought the way they defended Waverly in the second half allowed Trey to really get going. They were playing everything tight, which in turn allowed Waverly to go spread and let Trey drive which is exactly what you don’t want him to do. He can finish at the rim, get to the free throw line and can find the open man if they collapse. Hillsboro did not have a guy who could defend Trey, especially when they were trying to pick him up tightly at the volleyball line. This win was also without Futhey and Stulley didn’t play the entire 2nd quarter. So that also has to be a nice plus for the Tigers, that they were able to handle the Indians with who was available.
Ya, people looking at a FT discrepancy like the officials were calling it Waverlys way, lol.
You just described why there was a discrepancy. Fouls were even until the 4th. Each team with 5 fouls in the first half. Wheeler and Brown both with “and ones”, being aggressive to the rim and Robertson fouled twice getting to the rim. Tigers 5-6 FT’s with those fouls. Quintin Captain fouled shooting and was 1-2.
Each team with 1 foul in the 3rd and no FT’s.
Waverly built the lead in the 4th and Trey was getting to the rim or dishing. Hillsboro with 9 fouls in the 4th and Waverly with 3. Waverly didn’t need to foul. Waverly 8-11 FT’s in the 4th, Robertson 5-6. 11 of the 17 FT’s in that 4th quarter. Ryan Scott did have an and one in the 4th.

Stulley picked up two fouls in the 1st quarter and sat the entire second.
Brown picked up his second foul in the 2nd quarter and went out.
