Logan (47) AT Big Walnut (49) DI Sectional

Post by loganlocos »

Got a chance to watch the Chiefs in person at Big Walnut last night.

Tegan Myers was a welcome returnee to the lineup - Chiefs raced out to the game's largest leading in the first quarter, building a 16-7 cushion. Logan's quick hands on defense and efficient ball movement helped the purple and white open the cushion. Ashton Mahaffey, Mason Frasure, and Cayden Alford had played well.

Big Walnut was a typical OCC squad - very strong defensively, they knew how to use positioning to deny lanes and passes. They also had a length advantage against the Chiefs. In the second quarter Logan committed a couple turnovers and missed some make-able shots as the Eagles stormed back. They went to the locker room tied at 20.

Third quarter was back and forth. Myers found his range knocking down a couple of long range shots and Logan got key buckets from all their role players. BW had a chance to take a two score lead into the 4th, but Mahaffey got a steal at mid court and took it the distance for a key layup and another tie score after 3.

The game was tied again with a minute to go. Big Walnut used their length in a 3/4 court press to cause problems for LHS. The game was tied again with a minute to play, but a pair of midcourt turnovers allowed the hosts to stretch their lead to 49-45 before a late layup by Logan got the final score to 49-47.

It was a tough way to go out. Lots of lead changes and overall a good basketball game with both teams and coaches looking for and finding answers.

You have to wonder if the overall lack of games/consistency hurt the purple. More reps in those "crunch" moments might have helped Logan make the plays to win instead of BW.

Only one senior on the Logan roster. Lots of reasons to be excited for next year. Onward and upward - Go Chiefs!

What did they play? 13, 14 games? That makes a gigantic difference in tight games like that.

I like what they have coming back, so hopefully they’ll get a full summer and season next year to improve.

Logan finished 3-10.

The lack of games definitely hurt this team - and Myers missed a significant chunk as well so the whole group really only got 5-6 games together.

They only had one senior. Some good kids coming up so I think Coach Rider and co. will have high hopes next year - especially if they can start and stay relatively healthy.
