Fairland 28 Worthington Christian 50 a final

Worthington Christian 50
Fairland 28 a final

... this one was over early as WC with size, defensive quickness took away the Fairland offense for 4 qtrs - the Dragons were unable to get perimeter looks, unable to get inside and finish, unable to get into an offensive flow, unable to stop WC from getting to the spots they wanted to get to on the floor offensively ... a tough matchup for the Dragons ... FHS went 2/18 from behind the 3 point line with Clayton Thomas hitting his first and last 3 point attempt of the game ... both being the only 3 point buckets the Dragons hit for the game ... when the 3 point look isn't there, forced up AND not falling - the rest of the offense sputtered , although they did get shots at the rim that just wouldn't go for the Dragons ... WC wasn't great offensively - they didn't need to be - without FHS able to score the Warriors were able to keep adding to their lead each quarter ... led by Tyler Kindberg's 17 points and DJ Moore (10 points) offensively and the WC defense that never allowed the Dragons to find or get into any flow this one was over by intermission ... Worthington Christian 28 Fairland 14 at the half ...Worthington Christian 50 Fairland 28 a final ...

Fairland ... 9 ... 5 ... 5 ... 9 ... 28
WC .........14...14...13....9 ... 50

Pfloyd's official "UN-official" napkin stats - Fairland

Scoring ... Aiden Porter 9, Clayton Thomas 8, Jordan Williams 6, Jacob Polcyn 2, Gavin Hunt 2, Zander Schmidt 1
3 Pointers ... 2/18 ... Clayton Thomas 2
FTs ... 4/6
PnP ... 8 fgs/ 16 points in the paint
PnT ... 1 fg / 2 points in transition
Pbck ... 0

... not how one of the best groups of seniors in SE Ohio wanted to go out - Clayton Thomas, Jacob Polcyn, Gavin Hunt, Jordan Willams, Nate Thacker ... no quit in this group for the entire 32 minutes at either end of the floor - which fits their career MO for the Dragons ... thank you - it's been a pleasure to follow you as you solidified the Dragon OVC domination of 6 straight OVC titles with 4 straight on your watch ... when I think of this group - Clayton Thomas was in range when he crossed half court AND he was legitimately "in 3 point range" ... a coach on the court ... master of the dime ... a player every coach in SE Ohio would take on their team without hesitation ... Jacob Polcyn - the best post player interior passer in SEO ... scored at the rim and from 3 point range ... played D like a player much taller in the post ...made the Dragons nearly unstoppable when he was able to score on the interior and get the ball on the blocks... Gavin Hunt - outstanding quickness, got out in transition to make the transition game for the Dragons a distinct area that opponents had to account for ... offensively at the receiving end of the dimes from Thomas/Polcyn/Williams/Porter as he was in constant motion on the offensive end ... one of those necessary role players that every team has to have to be successful ... Jordan Williams - an undersized post player/forward ... offensively got his points at the rim from block to block ... great offensive and defensive rebounder , kept opponents out of the paint with strength, athletic talent ... Nate Thacker - became instant 3 point offense his senior year ... adding yet another perimeter scorer on a team full of 3 point scorers ... at 6-4 his size made him valuable inside on the boards at the defensive end ... put all of this talent together and you get TEAM ... the best TEAM Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line over the last decade and during the reign of this group of graduating seniors ... again thank you , it's been a pleasure to cover your play on the court during your careers , I wish you all the best after graduation -pfloyd

Pfloyd, great recap as always. Agree with you completely, matchups sometimes make things look pretty one-sided, whether it be size or quickness, and sometimes even both.

I think WC played a great defensive game as them limited Fairland on the passing lanes allowing easy buckets. WC size hurt on the boards. Fairland did get some turnovers but just missed some easy baskets. Moore may be a D1 commit but the play of the big guys i think won it for them.

Southeast/east had little chances in these games, except maybe highland. Columbus school usually wins these regional final game. Great run for w, so called, local teams 👏

I'll eat crow on this one.. I knew Worthington Christian was good, VERY good at that. Two absolute studs and good athletes around them..... but I still thought Fairland could/would win this game

Congrats to WC on a very impressive win! And great career by these Fairland seniors. They've been fun to watch for a very long time.

Great season by the Dragons; they represented themselves and the OVC well.

Worthington Christian could very well end up being the D3 state champion.
