The Scioto County sports community mourns the death of Howard Newberry 96. Howard and his family owned Newberry Sporting Goods for a long time in Southern Ohio - at one time, I believe they had 6 stores. Anybody who had to order equipment for their teams or officials who bought items from his before the on-line shopping era knew the Newberry family. The family let the various Portsmouth officiating chapters use their building free of charge. A very good man who will be missed greatly by the athletic community.

Very sad to hear of Howard's passing.......I used to live 2 houses down from the Newberry's on Waller Hill. Mr. Newberry was one of the nicest people I've ever met.

Did they have a place or 2 around Zanesville/Cambridge back in the day ?

Mr. Newberry and his sons always were very nice and a huge help to me from my playing days throughout my coaching career. I doubt we will ever see that sincere and caring service again. RIP Howard, you will be missed.
