Fairfield Union 54 Alexander 44 a final

Fairfield Union 54
Alexander 44 a final

2 teams who are in the same boat/stage of their development as TEAMS - both teams have "pieces", both teams are trying fit these pieces into a 7-8 man group where everyone has/knows their roles ... Both TEAMS have THAT guy - FU with 6-6 Ted Harrah down low in the post/scores around the rim - needs the touches/should have touches/good things happen when TH gets the touches... while Alexander has arguably the best player in the TVC in Kyler D'Augustino (33 points last night) - this is where the comparison ends as FU's role players are more defined - they know who the other scorers are going to be and should be & ARE - Brennen Rowles handles the ball/scores on the perimeter/gets to the rim = points, Caleb Redding can score on the perimeter, score off the dribble, rebound at both ends = points, Caleb Schmelzer 6-6/soph rebounds the ball well, has the athletic upside to get position in the paint/will continue to improve as he gets used to the physicality of the varsity game - when he calms down/let's the game come to him and knocks down the FT's will get( he will go to the line alot! - 7 times last night 3/7) he will be another double figure scorer as a role player...ONLY 1 senior on the Falcons team this season ... on the other side of the court Coach Skinner's squad has one of the most prolific scorers (because he has to be THIS at this point in the season) in Kyler D'Augustino (33pts) ... might be the best midrange shooter I've seen for a long time, the lefty last night had 22 points in the first half , had ALL of the fg's for Alexander in the first half/ went 5/5 from the FT line ... figuratively and literally "singlehandedly" had Alexander leading 24-20 at the intermission as AHS only had single FT points from Jagger Cain (1) and Zach Barnhouse (1) at intermission ... Coach Skinner, the Alexander ballclub are early in the stages of finding the role players/who are going to be the supporting cast which will provide the 2 more consistent scorers needed for AHS - logic looking at the rosters has Zach Barnhouse (6-6) down low to be at least ONE of those role players, he has the size, and once he gets in shape (coming back from knee surgery) he CAN BE, MUST BE one of those scorers - the go to guy around the basket ... looking for another consistent perimeter scorer - Jagger Cain (PG) needs to be that guy to keep teams from double teaming and keeping the ball out of D'As hands ... Cain is quick, can get to the rim - has to finish - he is finding himself open on the perimeter with the doubles on D'Augustino ... shooting the 3 ball without hesitating has to be a priority for him - he has the skills to do it ... that 3rd scorer ? still looking for players to BE that/those guys - Braydon McKee? Jace Ervin? Alex Norris? Levi Thompson came in off the bench, no hesitation in the last 1 minute of the game - drilled a triple to make him the 3rd leading scorer on the Spartan team last night behind D'Augustino's 33 pts and Braydon McKee's 4 pts ... BOTH FU and Alex are a work in progress with FU KNOWING who their pieces are while Alexander is still finding those pieces to continue to develop around Kyler D'Augustino (it's going to be where WE will know the Spartans are improving as a TEAM when we look at the box score and see Kyler D's ppg going down while the TEAM around him ppg go up ) ... Fairfield Union 54 Alexander 44 a final ...

... I lost $1 on the over/under to 93bulldog for this one - paid him while he was doing the radio broadcast LOL ... both teams went almost 5 minutes without scoring a point ! still a great game for me to get eyes on- both teams will be better when I see them again later this season as the parts develop, the inexperienced kids find out they CAN contribute and are expected to contribute to make TEAM the best TEAM can be ... got to talk with Lou Horvath the voice of high school hoops in SEO as the folks at Alexander get to hear him every game as the AHS PA announcer! along with Randy Dillinger the official scorer for Alexander AND at the Convo for Basketball :30 ... thought I was going to be escorted out of the gym as both Lou and Coach Skinner for Alexander made their way up to the Cheap Seats before the JV game started !!! thought they were the official bouncers at the Alley !!! - great chatting with both Coach Skinner and Lou not many people/hoops guys or otherwise better than these folks ... got to talk with Coach Helber (asst varsity coach for FU & former head varsity coach at Logan High School) - Coach Helber , shook hands with Coach Travis Shaeffer (new boys varsity coach at FU) he'll do a nice job in continuing the tradition of quality basketball at FUHS ...

Thanks for the report pfloyd. I'm glad you got to see these young Falcons early in the season as I think they will definitely develop as the year goes on. Next year should be another good one for FU basketball. Hope to see you somewhere during season or tourney route.

... I wanted to see both Alex and FU early on knowing that they would be works in progress ... I'll catch Alex on the 18th, FU after the New Year again, then both toward the end of the season - I want to see the improvement ... as you posted Smeltzy, with only 1 senior on the roster - FU should be a player in the rankings next season ...
