This may be one of Coach Maddox’s finer coaching jobs. Now starting a freshmen at the point. Gives them some badly needed scoring from the guard position. Harder for teams to just pack it in on Sallee and Taylor in the post. As usual, Maddox has kids playing extremely hard especially on the defensive side of the ball. Limited Jackson to 29 points tonight.Warren has 10 freshmen and only 1 sophomore that make up their Freshmen and JV teams. Freshmen team is 13-0 and JV’s are 14-2 with both losses coming to Dover. Bringing Coach Mark Duckworth back into the mix along with adding former Warrior, Brad Venham, as the Varsity assistant, are huge additions when it comes to working on the fundamentals with these pups. Future is bright for Warren basketball.

Warren played well last night against Jackson. As usual, Maddox and staff are doing a great job putting kids in the position to best suit the team. Sallee and Taylor are their bell-cows. If they can keep the games in the 50s-low 60s, Warren has a chance to win. Good move by Maddox to start Freshman Guard Julian Stadleman. I’m sure the thought is to get some games under his belt for the tourney this year and to develop for next year. Obviously, the thin guard position helps Stadleman’s playing time.

When West Virginia AAAA #3 ranked Parkersburg South comes to town (83ppg), Warren better be up for a challenge. They will be the best team they have faced all year…yes, better than Dover. They have excellent guard play and can make you pay from the 3 pt line. The post players are solid as well. Two out of the last three games Pkb South had 13 and 17 MADE 3 pointers. This means Caleb Davis, Stadleman and company better play in your face, physical defense against Ashton Mooney and Cyrus Traugh (D1 level athlete). If Warren junks it up, they have a fighting chance.
