Warren 56
New Lexington 29 a final

... revenge is best served when it takes place during the Sectional Final in the one and done season ... the Warriors of Coach Maddox extracted their revenge vs the Panthers of NL for a Dec 21st loss at home 49-54 ... ALWAYS good to pick up the W, in front of the home crowd and even more so when you can do it with DEFENSE ... the Warriors this time around vs New Lex were a NEW LOOK WHS team ... as prior to the New Year, WHS hadn't shifted to getting Julian Stadelman into the starting lineup, the Panthers for NL were able to drop 5 triples in the 3rd quarter , spreading the floor forcing the Warriors to chase the 4th quarter - the Warriors could not catchup ... last night there was no chasing ... last night the Warrior D put the clamps on the Panthers for the 1st 8 minutes of the game as the napkin stat line for NL showed ... 0 points, 0/4 from behind the 3 point line, 6 turnovers while allowing Warren to go 1/2 from behind the arc, Brayden Sallee put up 9 points in the qtr, freshmen Julian Stadelman added 4 points and Trent Taylor 2 ... Warren 15 New Lexington 0 after one ... in the 2nd the Panthers almost pulled the same "goose egg" stat line on the Warriors as the NL defense only allowed 4 points from Sallee in the 2nd while dropping 9 points of their own - Isaac Dick added 4 and Ryan Hobbs 5 pts ( including a triple) ... Warren 19 New Lex 9 at intermission ... coming out of the locker rooms Warren's freshmen PG - Stadelman looked to "come into his own" as the youngster dropped a triple, a deuce and 2/2 from the line ... Sallee was Sallee as the 6-4 swingman added a pair of 2 pointers and 1/2 from the charity stripe ... rounding out the WHS scoring was Dennis Pettey with 3/4 free throws to give the Warriors 15 points in the period ... something that stayed solid was the Warrior D ... the starters/ the role players off the bench - no let down - the Warriors allowed NL 3 fgs in the 3rd (5 points from Hunter Kellogg/2 points from Lukas Ratliff) only 6 fgs through 3 quarters of play , the WHS defense through 3 forced 11 turnovers while only committing 4 on their own possessions - dominating D ... switching, rotating, communicating = D ... Warren 34 New Lex 18 after 3 ... Defense - check ... Sallee getting his 18 pts through 3 periods - check, Stadelman stripping the New Lex guards 3 times - check, Stadelman 11 points from the PG position - check THE ONLY thing missing was an offensive napkin stat line from the OTHER BIG MAN IN THE PAINT for the Warriors 6-6 Trent Taylor! so far through 3 , NL held him to 2 points ... but as they say you can't keep a good man down ... Taylor went off for 8 points including 2 slams on transition dunks ... 6 more points by Stadelman from the PG position, 5 points from Sallee, Pettey adding a 2 pointer ... Defensively in the final period - NL was held to 3 more fgs/ 9 total for the game ... all three were of the 3 point variety ( 2 treys from Hobbs/ 1 from Kellogg) ... game, set and match - revenge- sectional championship ... Warren 56 New Lexington 29 a final

... the Warrior W sets up a BIG time matchup of SEOhio powers as Warren will now meet Waverly in the District Semi finals on Saturday 2/26 @ 1pm at Southeastern High school ... the last 2 meetings have Warren coming away with W's both times the Warriors were underdogs ... going into Saturday ... Waverly sits atop of the Elite 8 rankings as #1 while Warren due to the outstanding play down the stretch in the regular season with W's over New Philadelphia/ Logan/ Ripley/ Jackson/Cambridge saw Coach Maddox's Warriors jump to #8 on the Elite 8 rankings ... it should be a dandy to open D2 district action next Saturday ...

... great to meet up with our Warren family - always a good time talking hoops/Warren hoops! finally met up with Whs95fan ! thank you for introducing yourself to pfloyd after the game my friend - my pleasure to meet you ... now!!! how do you go to D2,D3, D4 games that are played at the same time, on the same day in 3 different venues in 3 different cities ??? the struggle is real ... so many great matchups and only 1 pfloyd ...
