From SOSA:

Waverly advances to a Division II state semifinal at 8:30 p.m., Friday at the University of Dayton Arena. Its opponent will be Gilmour Academy, who defeated St. Mary’s Memorial to advance.

https://www.sosaohio.com/2022/03/12/wav ... ver-heath/

Gilmour is a private school in Gates Mill near Cleveland. The Lancers are 22-5 and defeated St. Mary's 62-35. I know nothing of Gilmour but it looks like they played a big school schedule.

The states two top ranked teams in D2, Akron SVSM and Kettering Alter make up the other semi-final.

Stranger things have happened.

How did this Gates Mills get put in Region 6 which was played at Bowling Green and Akron SVSM played in Region 5 at Canton. They are 35 miles apart, so they could’ve very well played in the same District, not to mention the same Region.

Gilmore Academy started the game off vs St. Mary’s Memorial 5-5 from 3. St. Mary’s ran a 2-3 zone and Gilmore was patient. They pick up at half court but their guards really get after you. They definitely didn’t look overwhelming on film. Waverly matches up pretty well with them size wise. They do have kid Mueller that is 6’7 and pretty athletic. I believe he is their leading scorer at 16 a game. St. Mary’s didn’t have much other than Ohio state verbal Austin Parks and they tried to force it to him a lot. Hopefully Gilmore Academy doesn’t shoot the 3 as well on Friday. After the first quarter Gilmore turned up the heat with a full court man press that caused St. Mary’s some problems. They also looked to run at any opportunity.

Pretty sure it will be assigned seating. Student sections behind the basket is usually kinda open season with the students. Also pep bands will be allowed also so if Waverly has a pep band then if they wish they can go. I doubt Gates Mills Gilmour will have much of a crowd so tickets will be available. Each school is allotted the same amount of tickets.

I believe it is because of the geographic distribution of D2 schools throughout the state. OHSAA needs to roughly balance the number of schools in each region that feeds the final four. Northwest Ohio, like South East Ohio, simply does not have the number of schools to populate a region bracket on its on.
